I was so crazy excited at this announcement... and then I realized it wasn't even a real game, just online multiplayer. What an absolute waste.

@skyhighgam3r: Online multiplayer games aren't real games? What have I been playing all these years when I fire up Overwatch?

@thecupidstunts: You've been playing 'online multiplayer'. If you enjoy that shit, good for you. It still doesn't change the fact it's missing a beginning, and a progression through to a climax followed by an ending.

If you hit a main menu and see:

New Game
Multiplayer
Options

There's a reason "Multiplayer" is separate from starting the actual game.
'Cause it's not the actual game.

@skyhighgam3r:

Game

noun

1. A form of play or sport, especially a competitive one played according to rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck. - Seems to me that online multiplayer titles qualify as a game.

2. A complete episode or period of play, ending in a definite result. "a baseball game" - Seems to me that online multiplayer titles qualify as a game.

It's all just semantics in the end. But disliking multiplayer only titles doesn't make them any less of a game than a single player title. 🤷‍♀️

@thecupidstunts: Liking multi-player only titles doesn't make them anymore of a game either. They are, factually and without any valid dispute, lacking a beginning, progression, and conclusion; and as such are less of a product through that lens.

Yes they are, by definition "a game" and your asshattery in posting the definition of the word is just ridiculous and 'ignores' the distinction between the two - it doesn't contradict it.

You're right though, it is semantics, but we're beyond the point where this set of semantics needs to be addressed and these things need to be segregated. It would be ridiculous to see an ad for a baseball game during the trailer segment at a theater; and that is EXACTLY how it feels - just because both things are using the same medium (Video) doesn't mean they just go together.

@skyhighgam3r: "Liking multi-player only titles doesn't make them anymore of a game either." - Who made that claim?

"They are, factually and without any valid dispute, lacking a beginning, progression and conclusion". - Within a single match, multiplayer games can absolutely have a beginning, progression, and conclusion.

"And as such are less of a product through that lens." - Except you are only looking at it through the lense of having a story. This is not a prerequisite for a title to be a game.

If you would have said that you feel like a game isn't as good without a Single Player story component, I would simply understand that it's your personal opinion, (which is no more or less valid than mine). But saying Online Multiplayer games aren't "real" games invited a counterpoint. Wasn't trying to tweak you. 🙂

Now you are just trying to argue, for the sake of it, I'm done with this.

@skyhighgam3r: I thought we were having a very civil discussion, (you were being very polite, which is really nice), and I was enjoying our back and forth.

My apologies if I offended. ☹

Did not expect it to look & feel that good, pleasantly surprised & impressed so far.

So many zombie games coming; Back 4 Blood, Quarantine, Dead Island, Dying Light 2...etc.
