Final Fantasy VII Remake PC Requirements Released Ahead Of Launch

It seems you won't need the latest and greatest to explore this new version of Midgar.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is making its way to PC, with the Intergrade version including both the base game and the additional Intermission DLC. It's a visual stunner that might not need as much graphical horsepower behind it according to the official specifications.

Square Enix doesn't make it clear what performance to expect from both its minimum and recommended PC requirements for the game, but at the very least you can rest assured you won't need something cutting-edge to get things running. And Nvidia GTX 780 is over eight years old at this point, while both the Intel Core i5-3330 and AMD FX-8350 are even older.

Now Playing: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Explained For Newcomers

What you will need is a lot of hard drive space, with Final Fantasy VII Remake commanding a full 100GB on PC regardless of the settings you use. You can expect an SSD to speed up loading times and visual pop-in, too, so only resort to an older HDD if you don't have another choice.

If you want Final Fantasy VII Remake to look as good (or even better) than it does on PS5, you'll need to step up to the recommended requirements which ask for at least an Nvidia GTX 1080, or an equivalent GPU with at least 8GB of VRAM. Note that this only gets you going at 1440p, so you'll need a bit more if you're aiming for 4K.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is out on PC this week, launching exclusively on the Epic Games Store on December 16. It will retail for $70, which might come as a surprise.

  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 780 / Radeon RX 480

Recommended Requirements (at least 1440p)

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-3330 / AMD Ryzen 3 3100
  • Memory: 12GB
  • Storage: 100GB

Since I dont have the version for PS4/PS5 I could deal with the $70 price tag. But putting it exclusively on the Epic store? Screw that. That makes it an instant no-buy from me.

I just got a PS5 Friday, and while I have seen it played on ps5 at work, cannot wait to play it myself along with DLC. While my computer rig can run the game at 2k ...hopefully 60 fps, I doubt it could run it at 4k with any kind of fps. I am gonna try the 4k at 30 fps instead of FHD at 60 fps, I might try the smart variable one also. A 3080 is harder to find then a PS5.

Along with my tv I upgraded earlier, I am upgrading my living room surround sound. As I plan to pump the sound up as loud as the furniture can withstand. I was overwhelmed already with the sound, cannot wait to see what it all can do. Not just the music, but all of the atmospheric sounds from doors, jumps, and a living breathing Midgar.

My fist play through took me nearly 80+ hrs, as I spent much of it with my jaw to the floor just looking around. Looking at the posters, the ads on buildings, the sky above- plates and all. And Tifa's short skirt. This next play through I am going to try hard mode and find all of the secrets.

@clockworkengine:Sometimes when I get jaded about gaming, especially here in gamespots forums, I just watch this FF7R playthrough for 10 secs, and remember that is how I felt and reacted through the whole game way back in 97' and through the remake now as well.

Her whole playthrough list here, so funny, all the way through.

@jenovaschilld: My favorite part of this discussion is that you saved the completionist stuff until PC release. That's exactly what I did. I took on a few of the easier optional fights and did most of the quests, but I saved hard mode and pretty much all the hardest stuff for PC. I just don't feel comfortable investing that kind of time in a game unless it's on my beloved PC where I have full control of what happens to my save data in any way I want.

@clockworkengine: To be honest, I really did not even know what there was to ... complete. I was one of those FF7 (fan fiction writing) fanatics sweating bullets before the Remake, just knowing they were going to ruin it. I avoided much of the game news as I could, to avoid spoiling the content before launch. And I walked around in a daze, in the game, at work, at home.... I could not believe all of the little tiny details they threw in Remake in homage of the OG. From music, little pictures of the old bar, door sounds, enemies, ... the story !! I was worried they would not fix some of the bad translations from the OG, but expanding all of the characters out, and enveloping CC, advent was amazing. I have not been so enveloped in a game ... since FF7 OG in 97'. I was lead through Remake like a perfect linear RPG game of old, when I saw the old picture of seventh heaven in the bar, I tried to explain, excitedly, to my wife how awesome it was, to my grown kids, to my neighbors, and my boss at work, but none of them understood. (bunch of losers).

I usually build a new gaming pc or upgrade about every 2 yrs, I last built a new one in 2018 with a 2600x and a vega 56. So 2020 came around ..... well you know. Right now the ole girl could probably run FF7R at 2k maybe around 90ish fps,. but most likely 60s. The PS5 is pretty solid at 60 fps 4k with no noticeable drops in reso, if it does drop out of 4k .... i just cannot see it. I am still losing my mind when I see the mention of who played the princess at Goldsaucer ..... (mindblown) or how Wall market got its name. So it could drop the FPS to 30 or turn them up to 120 .... I am too enraptured in Jenova quickening song music to notice.

Yeah like you, I prefer my pc gaming above all else..... hey, I figure when the next chapters of FF7R (the sequel to FF7), when they come out, PC parts will be reasonably close to MSRP. And we can really tweak and pump the FPS up. And achievements and secrets are easier to track and find on PC to.

I just hope by then .... they have a really good internet at the nursing home I will be in.
