Fatal Fury 3 hits Wii VC, Shantae casts spell on DSiWare

Nintendo Store Update: Classic Neo Geo fighter punches way onto virtual console; Wayforward’s magical sequel hits download hub.

No Caption Provided While Princess Zelda and Samus Aran are easily the most prominent Nintendo heroines, this week a new action lady comes to the Nintendo DS.

Leading the DSiWare charge today is Shantae: Risky's Revenge (1,200 DSi points or $12). From Wayforward, the game is a sequel to the Gameboy Color original Shantae. Players reprise their role as the "half-genie" Shantae and are tasked with trekking through haunted wastelands, burning deserts, and enchanted forests to ultimately bring down the nefarious lady pirate Risky Boots. The title is said to be larger in scope than its predecessor and promises "huge, multi-sprite" bosses. Throughout the game, players will learn magical attacks, brew zombie coffee, save golden babies, and master the art of belly dancing, which transforms Shantae into more powerful beasts.

Nintendo added one Virtual Console title to the mix today, and that game is Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory (900 Wii points, or $9). The one-two player 1995 Neo Geo title is now available to download from the virtual storefront and packs in all the head-to-head fighting that fans of the series will remember. Road to the Final Victory introduces the Oversway system, by which players can fight in three dimensions, instead of just two.

Also hitting DSiWare today is Rummikub (800 DSi points, or $8). The game from Games Factory Online supports up to four players and is based on the 50-year old tile-based tabletop game of the same name. The title lets gamers play head-to-head or against a computer-controlled opponent. The AI's difficulty setting can be ramped up from beginner to advanced.

Switching to WiiWare, Racers' Island: Crazy Racers (1,000 Wii points, or $10) crashed onto the download space today. In the title, players can choose from six international racers and speed through 20 distinct island courses on their road to hopeful victory. Crazy Racers players will need to master the art of multitasking, as the title features a two-fold control mechanic. With one hand, players steer their cars and aim their items with the other.

The last game hitting the WiiWare hub today is Learning with the PooYoos: Episode 3 (500 Wii points, or $5). From Lexis Numerique, the title is a brain-trainer for children aged 3-6 who can't yet read. The Poo Yoos are a band of "adorable baby animals" that will help children learn basic development concepts, such as numbers, letters, shapes, and colors through an array of interactive lessons.

I can't see playing Fatal Fury with Wii's controllers. I haven't been on Wii's Virtual Console in a while, so I'll have to check it out. Not sure if I still have my 2GB memory stick in my Wii or not.
