Fallout 4 Fans Told Their Pip-Boy Edition Pre-Order Has Been Cancelled

[Update] GAME says it will replace cancelled Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition pre-orders.

[Update] In a statement to GameSpot, GAME has said PayPal and bank issues affected a "small number of customers," resulting in the cancellations. It also committed to replacing cancelled pre-orders for the Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4.

"While processing these orders, a small number of customers have experienced problems that have been caused by their bank or PayPal accounts not allowing payment to go through. For security and privacy, they do not share with us why payment has failed," said a spokesperson.

"We would like to reassure all customers that have pre-ordered that their order is still reserved and being held for them. Stock will be secured in our distribution centre until we are able to ensure payment and delivery. This stock will not be released for general sale. We will contact all customers via email within the next 48 hours with an order status."

It added: "Rest assured, your Fallout 4 Pip-Boy edition is safe."[Update ends]

With just days until the release date of Fallout 4, UK retailer GAME has begun cancelling pre-orders of the limited Pip-Boy Edition, citing problems with processing payment as the cause for this.

GameSpot has obtained an email from a customer impacted by the cancellation: "We have tried to process your order and have hit a few issues. Unfortunately, PayPal has come back to us and they have not allowed the payment to go through," the message reads.

"For your security and privacy they do not share the reasons with us."

A copy of that email can be found below.

No Caption Provided

The customer in question has assured us that there is enough money in the account for the product. The PayPal account was also used to successfully pay for another product very recently. No card or account details have been altered since.

The retailer has, however, sent out Vault Boy Bobbleheads, ahead of the game's release. It is unclear whether Game is replacing Pip-Boy Edition pre-orders, or sending out other editions of the game as a replacement.

It seems the cancellations are widespread, as GAME's Twitter account has been inundated with messages from disgruntled customers with similar experiences.

"I expect my pip boy edition after you decided to decline payment through PayPal, I had sufficient funds," said user Chris Simpson.

"They took my money AND cancelled my order," added Robert Carter.

Katrina McGarry, who claims to have spoken to a manager, said the retailer "[isn't] taking reorders," but as mentioned above, this has not been officially confirmed.

GameSpot has attempted to contact customer service by phone, but was unable to connect through the numbers provided.

In August, GAME also cancelled pre-orders for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Collector's Edition, initially saying this was due to PayPal or bank errors, but then citing an internal computer glitch. These cancellations resulted in over 300 people being incorrectly charged.

I've ordered once from Game...these dipshits didn't bother notifying me that they'd cancelled my bloodborne ce edition twice bc it exceeded the weight limit for international packages. They don't bother telling you unless you read the fine print.

It's only after they'd done this twice in succession that they told me, after I fired off an angry e-mail.

Anyhow...f**** these guys. Worthless. I'm sorry to all the people who didn't get their orders. I'm in the same boat with Amazon at the moment, but at least they didn't outright cancel my order.

Yeah, Game does that. They f me up so much I had to re-order a copy from Australia. And I'm in Europe. Two weeks wasted and double the money. I don't know how they're still doing business.

@Relvar: Depending on how badly people want to keep their pip boy edition you could be looking at far more money than 10 dollars. Especially since collectors are going to be snatching them up.

Easy fix to this. Just wait FFS. Is a week or two going to kill you knowing that you will have absolutely no problems acquiring the collectors edition?

Don't Pre-Order.

@jay30mcr: Some special editions are undersold, especially Ubisoft games, but there are some that are trully limited and sell fast. How can you say in a week or two you can find them without problems when the article is about cancelled pre-orders?

I'm more amazed that people actually spent almost a hundred just to get the extra plastic fake ass Pip-Boy. I mean I love the Fallout series. But I don't need a toy in order to enjoy the game or not.

@king_jamz: That's why they are called Collectors. I preordered one - I cannot wait to get it. Along with my Ultimate Vault Dweller's Survival Guide Bundle and the History of Fallout. I was even thinking about getting some Pop Vinyls. I'm going to take a look at them once I pick up my Fallout goodies.

It's called "NSF" (not sufficient funds); which means they were probably overdrawn on their accounts....because they're living paycheck to paycheck and probably can't afford the higher cost edition to begin with.

@otterbee: THat's a bit unfair, tbh. Most of these people preordered a long time ago and the card they used may have expired or they got a new account, etc... the dead beat asssumption is just "being a dick", sorry. and this is from someone who doesn't live paycheck to paycheck and utilizes a strict budget (I bought 2 pipboys because I budgeted the money ahead of time...)

@philcarnavarro: It's no different than others assuming that it's GAME's fault for the cancellations. I would be more apt to think it was a "mistake" on the customers' faults than on the retailer's, since it didn't happen to everyone.

I didn't say they were a deadbeat...I just made the implication that maybe they're not very good with budgeting their money, or have other account issues which resulted in this "mistake".

@otterbee: It would be more apt to think that, since GAME is trying to charge numerous people the same amount at once, that the bank's fraud systems saw this as a red flag and denied the charges.

This occurred to me with my Launch Day PS4 that I preordered 6 months in advance.

But yeah, poor people are buying this thing and living paycheck to paycheck at the same time.

Gamestation was way better, then Game ate them, had no competition, and went under causing all Gamestations to shut down.

If I recall correctly, Skyrim was the last new game I got from my local friendly Gamestation.

@The-Neon-Seal: I always used to use Gamestation. They didn't close down in my hometown, they just became GAME stores, the worst thing that could happen! The UK needs a better retailer than this or at least a high street rival to make sure that they are pricing competitively. I never use GAME anymore, they are hopeless both online and instore. The staff don't even know their products.

@gotrekfabian: my friend ordered me a copy of DA:I at the start of December, a week before Christmas she asked if I liked my present which I hadn't received so I waited patiently, about mid January she contacted them and they said they'd send another copy, at the start of February I contacted them and told them to refund her money because they were utterly useless

and the worst part? i went and bought it myself to discover it the controls were so terrible I gave up on it (no auto attack....really bioware?)

the thing is that is the only problem I've ever had and technically it wasn't me cause I never ordered it, I've never had a problem with them in all the years I've been buying games (oh apart from when they ran out of GTA4 copies but they sent me a collectors edition that came with an awesome lock box I use pretty much everyday)

and gamestation? really? electronic boutique ftw

@normanislost: EB were great, they even let you trial a game to see if you would like it or not. As for Gamestation, yeah, I found them pretty good until taken over by GAME. Okay, prices were better online but I preferred, at the time, to use retail outlets which supported business in my local area.

I understand your stance on using GAME but it is the monopoly they have created and abused which I now object to. I even have a few acquaintances who work at GAME but I just won't use them anymore, even second hand games are extortionately priced.

P's I too have the GTA IV special edition and use the lockbox to store my important documents. I have had the Rockstar key fob on my keys since that launched. Now that was a special edition worth having, to hell with the PipBoy!

I say persevere with Dragon Age, I really enjoyed it although, having said that, there are better RPGs out there now and Fallout 4 will be another one to add to that list. *crosses fingers*

@gotrekfabian: Just fyi, you can open the GTA 4 lockbox with literally ANYTHING. Don't believe me? Go grab a paperclip, wiggle it around, and pop! I wouldn't keep more than 50 bucks worth of stuff in it.

@HOLYSHMUCK: I know that it is a weak lock but I keep the lockbox in the GTA 4 box it came in and it doesn't even look like anything other than a geeks gaming box. As well as that it is well out of sight and will never be noticed unless someone had a lot of time to rummage through the house and knew what they were looking for.

I still despise GAME for cancelling my Mass Effect 3: Collector's Edition, 3 days before release, through some kind of dispute with the publisher which resulted In them not stocking It.

Luckily, I managed to grab one of the few remaining copy's from Amazon, still pissed though.
