EA Will Shut Down Online Servers For These 12 Games By The End Of The Year

Say goodbye.

As it does periodically, Electronic Arts is shutting down the online servers for a number of older, less-played titles by the end of the year. As spotted by PureXbox, EA is shutting down online servers for at least 12 games in the coming months, including Battlefield Bad Company 2, Dead Space 2, Crysis 3, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14, among others.

Crysis 3, Dante's Inferno, Dead Space 2, and Battlefield 1943, among others, are available through Xbox backwards compatibility, so anyone enjoying those games on a newer Xbox don't have much longer to make use of their online elements.

EA says the decision to "retire" older games is never easy, but these decisions are necessary so EA can dedicate time and resources to newer, more actively played titles.

"As games are replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the games that have been live for some time dwindles to a level--typically fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles--where it's no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping the online services for these games up and running," EA said.

EA better show clear evidence that no one is playing FIFA 21 or face a lawsuit. I'm sure their terms of service was designed to protect them from that but consumer laws in most nations overwrite companies abusive terms of service.

Terminating support for a 3 year old game, specially one that is an yearly franchise with minor updates each year, seems like a anti consumer action where the company purposely makes their product absolute to force customers to buy a new one.

The lightbulb conspiracy and the Phoebus cartel come to mind.

FIFA owners should be the ones concerned and upset. A 3 year old game that added current gen consoles. If you like the game and play online, too bad! You been had by the EA machine!

We will never get another online fps on par with BC2. Every single multiplayer title that is made nowadays is all about selling you $20+ fking skins instead of offering quality multiplayer.

It's funny how every EA fan who loves Battlefield has been yelling, "Bad Company 3". Yet EA always finds something else to fund instead.

Like, they're willing to pay for a BF: BC3, so why not give it to them? Do they not like money?

never heard of Dante’s Inferno before. quickly checked the game and it was never released to PC and it's clear rip-off of god of war. so if I was a console player why would I play this game when I already have god of war at home? the game would sell better if it was on PC but everyone knows EA known to suck at business lmao

@majikayo666: Dantes inferno was better and I played it before I played god of war. And god of war is ripping off many old games, heck even games like blood omen 2 and soul reaver 2 in several ways.

@ember_to_flame: my point was about "wanting to play god of war but not liking the idea of owning a console because you are PC gamer" so there is already a game like god of war, releasing dante's inferno on the same platform god of war exist and ignoring especially PC is nonsense because those who want to play god of war but cannot on PC would buy dante's inferno instead if they had released the game on PC. it's not rocket science for business

at the time perhaps dante's inferno would be a game I would preorder if it had released on PC, since I'm no console gamer for a long time I didn't even know it existed. TBH PS2 was the last video game console I ever bought just because all the good video games on it I kept hearing and after it I never heard any decent console game after PS2's era so no wonder I never heard dante's inferno so IDK if they expect PC gamers to somehow be aware of console games and buy consoles when our main source of buying games is steam so steam is the main source we learn about new games lol. I cannot deny after steam became a thing I stopped buying video game magazines so I have no idea about most of console games

@majikayo666: Well, I'm sure most console games comes to pc emulators. Most my "pc only" friends rarely buy games, they find cracked versions or emulators(can find almost any console game for that).

But I understand your point, exclusive games used to be exclusive making alot of good games unavailable to other platforms. Today however everything called exclusive is just a timeframe, because eventually it will release on pc aswell.

Tbh you missed out on alot if ps2 were the last console you bought. But it is modern times I'm sure alot of the older console games will or have already come to pc by now.

I have owned pc since early 90s n console since late 80s, my fav OS used to be 95/97/xp and fav consoles ps 2 , xbox 360 and ps4. I never liked holding myself to one single platform, each one offered something unique and fantastic.

@ember_to_flame: I was invested in emulator until ps2 era, emulators are not better experience as some games still unplayable after all these decades. it made me lose hope to expect decent emulator experience since ps2 era

for example metal gear solid 3 still visually suck ass and test drive eve of destruction still has shadow problems, not to mention performance issues. it's common problem for emulators to cannot render certain visuals properly, some games just suck at performance so it doesn't mostly worth to play them on emulator unless you have quantum PC and the game is very optimized and whoever develop the emulator showed extra care for the particular game

IDK how exclusivity changed these days other than I saw god of war on steam and that's it. I really have no idea which console games come to PC if it did ever. though metal gear solid 3 coming to PC so it may be considered as a sign that console game exclusivity BS seem to finally come to an end

TBH I'm not gamer as I used to be as video gaming sucks for a decade. less fun more conversation anymore. I only play video game I seem to find it fun, I ignore most games no matter if they are AAA. like for a year I kept playing craftopia on PC, before then I was replaying god hand and metal gear solid 3 for years on my ps2 lol

my take on not being console player anymore mostly because I wouldn't buy a console just for a few games. in that regard PS2 was the only console for me that had all the legendary games + games that are ok to play with gamepad. the main reason why I bought PC and became PC gamer after sega genesis era is FPS games became a thing and they are hell to play on gamepad. in general action, strategy and whatnot games are better with mouse and consoles keep ignoring keyboard mouse which is another stupid aspect of console gaming

@majikayo666: Your whole conversation is pointless. You said something stupid about something you've never even heard of before, let alone actually played it to form that opinion. People called you out on it and now you're deflecting trying to save face. Just give up, you've already humiliated yourself.

@BIG_BOSS_927: it's like saying "how do you know dying is bad when you never died before?" ayy lmao. your whole message is so unnecessary and unrealistically exaggerated. watching its videos enough to understand it's god of war ripoff. it's not about similarities, it's clearly developed to oppose god of war. it's no rocket science bruh. according to the point I mean what games god of war ripping off doesn't matter at all

as whatever you believe it happened, it never happened. none of the people actually made comment about the point I made, no person here try to be right or point out who is wrong. they just being contrarian and actually ignore what I said and wanted to talk about whatever they wanted about god of war or dante's inferno. it was like I said "the beach house on the mountain is stupid idea" and persona A was like "the beach house usually built in beach" and the other person was like "mountain houses steal ideas from beach houses" and when I explain I mean about the beach houses built on mountain you came and acted like I agree with what hitler did to jews. just lmao

Microsoft: We're going to bring back a bunch of Xbox 360 servers and fix the ones that are still up!

EA: Oh yeah? Watch this! *rolls nat 1*

@Carpetfluff: One of the DLCs had online coop and a feature where you could create and share custom battle arenas.
