A decade after its release, Electronic Arts is giving away The Sims 2 for free through Origin--along with every single expansion and stuff pack ever released.

EA recently announced it would end support for The Sims 2, meaning it will no longer release content or technical fixes for the game. It will continue to offer for support to those who contact the company for help, but the game as it exists today will remain unchanged going forward (barring any efforts made by the modding community). EA contacted Sims 2 owners recently, informing them of the news and offering a free upgrade to the newly created The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection.

That same collection is now being offered to all Origin users for free for a limited time. To get it, simply open Origin, select the "Redeem Product Code" option from the menu, and enter the code I-LOVE-THE-SIMS. You have until July 31 at 10AM Pacific to redeem the code to your Origin account. If you don't already have one, you can sign up for free.

Ultimate Collection includes the base Sims 2 game along with "every single The Sims 2 expansion pack and stuff pack." The list of content that entails, as a result, is comically long: There have been eight expansion packs (which add new functionality and major features) and ten stuff packs (which, as you might guess, contain various stuff--primarily clothing and furniture) released since The Sims 2's launch in 2004.

The full list of eight expansions:

And all ten stuff packs:

 • Celebration Stuff
 • Family Fun Stuff
 • Glamour Life Stuff
 • H&M Fashion Stuff
 • Happy Holiday Stuff
 • Holiday Party Pack
 • IKEA Home Stuff
 • Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff
 • Mansion & Garden Stuff
 • Teen Style Stuff

The Sims 4, the newest game in the series, is scheduled for launch on PC on September 2. EA released a lengthy gameplay video recently which may have inadvertently revealed its plans for a Battlefield Premium-esque service for the game.

Luckily, you can STILL get all the add-ons!

You must have The Sims 2 though.

Go to origin, and contact them via chat and let them know you own the sims 2, missed the date and really want the expansion packs.

They'll ask you to verify that you own a copy of the sims 2 by having you upload a photo of the copy you own and then they'll give you the code and add it to your library on Origin.

Just did this 2 days ago.

Sucks that EA is no longer supporting the Sims 2. You'd think they'd somehow release a patch to make Sims 2 compatible for Windows 8 or 8.1, but instead they ignored us and continued to make Sims 3 and Sims 4 that PROBABLY won't even work on Windows 8 anyway. I have the original hard copies of the Sims 2 and most of the expansions leading up to Bon Voyage. I've installed them and tried to find some sort of assistance in getting these games to work, but nothing helped. My game loaded up fine, but it would crash within like, less than 5 minutes of me entering a Sim's house. It sucks.

It would have been nice to get Apartment Life for free, since I've seen many beautiful custom homes using that expansion pack. But since my games won't work with my OS anymore, I guess it doesn't matter anyway. Too bad my PC died, it had Windows 7 and my games worked flawlessly on that OS. I wish I could go back to my PC just to play Sims 2 again. Sad.

I was so happy when I heard about this. Originally, it was just going to be for the people who already owned The Sims 2, which I could understand, but I was hoping they'd be generous and give it to anyone who wanted it.

I've really been enjoying it since I downloaded it. :D

<< LINK REMOVED >> In order to get the game, click on the Origin tab located above the "My Games"/"Store" tabs, click "Redeem Product Code," and use this code: I-LOVE-THE-SIMS

In order to download it after that, click on the "My Games" tab, scroll over the image of The Sims 2, and then click on "Download" when it pops up.

I was super happy that I could play this! I was even happy to sit through the long download wait! I get to the part where you actually make your sim, and it crashes. I try again thinking it's just being a little weird since it was my first time playing, crashes in the exact same spot. I see that other people are having this problem, and some people are running it just fine! Is there any way I can fix this? I'd really appreciate some help. :( I have windows 8 if that's something. PLEASE HELP D:

It says we have to backup and uninstall The Sims 2 but what about the expansion packs? Do we have to uninstall all of the expansion packs too? And if so, would we need to save anything from those exp. pack files?

@katneko1 I get something similar. It goes through the intro screens then ends up showing The Sims fun with pets screen and just stays there. I have a cursor but there is nothing to click on to get the game started.

I wish they would leave the exchange up. That's my only complaint. Thanks for this. I never got Apartment Life and by the time I wanted it, people were charging $70 for it.

Win7 pro gaming system, but the Sims 2 UC launches threw one of the expansions .exe's not a main game I get a EA logo (NOT IMPRESSED) a cut screen and 20 minutes of a locked screen with the music and the mouse working but nothing else. My daughter upset and me wondering why I bother with EA anymore.. any solutions.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> If you seriously consider that to be true you clearly haven't been paying attention to this industry at all. If you absolute have to pick out on company I'd say Activision is far more hurtful considering that they seem unwilling to take any chances at all and stick to one or two massive franchises.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I know that feel. No matter what EA will do, people will stick to the "worst American company" bs ever. It's uncanny how the gamer crowd can give no pardon or sorry. I'm not about to try to justify every misteps made by EA, but what I'm trying to point out is just how people can easily switch from a good opinion to a bad opinion, while the opposite never happens. Once people decides that something is bad, there is no turning back, no matter what happens. Is it too hard to just say "thanks EA, great valuable gift". It doesn't have to mean you agree with everything EA says or does, but just give credit where it's due damnit! EA is not forced to give anything to anyone but still, The Sims 2 with all DLC for free and all EA gets is "bah, they're still the devil".

This is yet another reason why EA is a great company that cares about their fans. Who else would give you the ultimate edition of a legendary game like this?

<< LINK REMOVED >> When games reach the age the age The Sims 2 has reached, they become Moral-Freeware. This basically means you can pirate it and no-one will judge you, apart from a judge. EA knows this, and decided they'd get in a little ahead of the inevitable.
