Death Stranding 2 Rumors Emerge Again, Reports Game Is Codenamed "Ocean"

New rumors seem to confirm that Death Stranding 2 is definitely in the works for Sony, under the codename "Ocean."

Hideo Kojima is still keeping secret about what his studio is working on next, though that doesn't stop rumors about what might be on the cards for Kojima Productions. The latest comes from a known leaker who claims to have an inside source on Death Stranding 2, saying that the game is still under production with the codename "Ocean."

As reported by Insider Gaming, the rumor comes from ResetEra user Dusk Golem, who has been a reputable leaker of horror-related games in the past.

Now Playing: DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT - PC Launch Trailer

"Death Stranding 2 is in development (and for some insiders to know I’m not bullshitting about this in the future, its internal codename is Ocean)," Dusk Golem wrote. "But Kojima has had a long standing deal with Sony on this, which is being analyzed if Sony and Kojima Productions should renew their contracts after DS2 or not at present, but was never in question before this due to a multi-game contract Sony and Kojima Productions have."

Last year it was reported that Kojima could be working on an Xbox exclusive game, leading fans to question whether the Death Stranding sequel could become an Xbox exclusive. Dusk Golem responded to this speculation, as well as to seemingly baseless rumors that the sequel was supposedly being developed for the Google Stadia.

"The deal with Xbox was never meant to be DS2, this rumor is just false, Sony and Kojima Productions have a multi-game contract that expires after DS2 and at present is being decided by both parties whether to continue their relationship or end it after DS2," Dusk Golem explained.

For now, the new rumors don't confirm many new details about the actual game, other than that it is in production as part of a partnership with Sony. Dusk Golem has also said that they wouldn't be leaking any details about the actual game, only debunking rumors about its production.

While it hasn't been officially confirmed by Kojima Productions, we can be reasonably certain that Death Stranding 2 is in production, with Norman Reedus previously announcing he was working on a sequel, and Kojima responding in a joking manner.

As for Kojima's next game, he's making a new title for Xbox.

Death Stranding is not a game for everyone or the masses. It is a Zone of Enders, Silent Hill (meant PT with Norman Reedus), MG 5, pants off, balls to the wall, Hideo Kojima production for sure.

I am not sure if Kojima knows.... I doubt if Kojima knows..., if he wants to be a producer, a movie star, a director, film maker, Norwegian dark fantasy fiction writer.... but he does go all in on these types of games. Holds nothing back, or baby in a canister .... I mean at any other game publisher would accounting NOT have some notes about Death Stranding. I think Kojima could only make Kojima games in today's gaming industry. I wish more people had the guts to do just that.

I enjoyed DS, for what it was, and while not a game of the year to me, I still found it a pretty amazing Kojima game. Well worth its money. Not a game that a parent would buy for their kid who just dabbles in gaming for sure.

@jenovaschilld: I don’t think Kojima produced Silent Hill.

EDIT: Are you thinking of P.T.? That didn't occur to me.

@thecupidstunts: Yeah I did mean PT along with Norman Reedus instead of silent hill, my fog brain just marries the two now.

@jenovaschilld: Pretty sure it's my fog brain, I should have made that connection immediately. 😅

But you are definitely right, Kojima is Kojima, (and there's no one else like him).

@thecupidstunts: Indeed, him and others in the Japanese space like Nomura, Kitase, Nobuo, or Murayama of Suikodens, or Hashino of personas, or Suzuki of Shenmue, or Ueda of ICO/Shadow of Colossus- are a dying breed in the larger gaming industry. Where now it takes teams of developers, who then run a game through the accountants and publicists, like a wood chipper, and then give us the mulch at the end.

I am not saying that modern games like CoD, the last of us, spiderman, horizon, or elden ring are bad... but some of these wildly weird, and interesting art piece games,- will never be made again,- after these guys fade away. You can tell with games like Assassin's Creed, and most EA games that more then a few groups were pushing and pulling and watered down to the most appealing product for mass consumer consumption.

Meanwhile you have Death Stranding, .... a gaming world/vision, that seems even more fantastic, wondrous, and weird, then other gaming worlds, we may have just been playing. That I fear, will probably be lost in future AAA games.

The original one wasn't bad, I could have liked it as I like Mr Hideo Kojima. But I got sick of all those whales and tanks. I prob won't play the sequel, because I don't have time anymore.

I wish well for Mr Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions :-)

@jmangamer85: it was a depressing game, meant to be, but boring, no way. Mind explain why all say boring? The boss fights were great, voice acting and animations you cannot find any better, there was diversity in terms of what you could do. I understand the empty landscapes, but that's what postapocalyptic wastelands are all about.

@phili878: I'd say boring yea. At least in Metal Gear you generally understand what's happening the entire time. Then they throw in some goofy plot twists. Death Stranding was just all these terms, events, and people that mean nothing to the player for the majority of the game. The only reason to keep playing story wise is if you have a deep hunger to understand. But for me, the story gave no incentive to want to finish because half if it is nonsense along with the gameplay being boring.

The game is very intriguing. I don't at all think it's bad. But a story can only drag me along for so long with no purpose before I just don't care anymore.

@noodles227: yeah I know exactly what you mean. I liked the story because I could mainly adapt myself to what exactly you just said. I actually tried like I made a difference and really enjoyed when people used the things I built that helped them through their journey's, and you have no idea how many hours I spent to allow fellow players to have an easier time, the reward was awesome, I have had dozens of thousands of likes in that game (and I don't care about likes at all usually ha).
