Daniel Craig Now Wants to Do Another Bond Movie

"I'll keep going as long as I'm physically able."

Ever since Daniel Craig suggested in an interview with Esquire last month that the upcoming Spectre might be his last James Bond movie, rumours have been flying about who might play the iconic secret agent next.

However, in a new interview for the Mail on Sunday in UK, Craig has explained that his departure might not be as imminent as first thought. Craig mentions that he is "contracted for one more" Bond film, which certainly implies that he is not about to leave the role. This is despite previously stating that "at the moment I can’t even conceive [another Bond movie]."

No Caption Provided

In the new interview, the 47-year-old star does admit that playing Bond is a physically demanding job. "I work myself to death," he says. "It's getting harder. But such is life. I'll keep going as long as I'm physically able."

Earlier this week, it was rumoured that Homeland star Damian Lewis was the top choice to replace Craig as 007, with the Sunday Mirror quoting a source as saying that Lewis had the "unofficial nod" from producers. This follows much talk about The Wire's Idris Elba potentially becoming the first black Bond, something that former 007 Pierce Brosnan doesn't think will happen.

Last week the Spectre theme song, "The Writing's On The Wall" by Sam Smith, was released. The film arrives in cinemas on November 6, 2015, and co-stars Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Monica Bellucci, and Ralph Fiennes.

Totally hilarious. He just did another interview a week after this article. Don't know if I can link directly on GS due to language (not gonna preemptively censor the whole thing), but it was on io9. Said it last week on this article and I'll say it again; Craig sucks as Bond, and his attitude shows why.

Can you imagine doing another Bond movie?

‘Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.’

You want to move on from Bond for good?

‘I haven’t given it any thought. For at least a year or two, I just don’t want to think about it. I don’t know what the next step is. I’ve no idea. Not because I’m trying to be cagey. Who the **** knows? At the moment, we’ve done it. I’m not in discussion with anybody about anything. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.’

One aspect nobody seems to be talking about (the focus seems to be on his age/fitness for the perceived Bond image) is what goes into making these movies. The crew literally has no life outside of making the movie, it's work work work all the time every day for several years. The director of the recent movies even talked about it being a "lifestyle" kind of movie. If it's anything like the shoots for Lord of the Rings this means waking up at 5 AM, workout, makeup, quick last minute notes on the day's shots, hours upon hours of physically and emotionally demanding work from everyone involved then going to see the rushes, plan the next day, revise lines and going to sleep late at night. Time for friends and family almost nil, pressure enormous, demands constantly escalating - a very hard life where only the finished product and glittering news coverage is visible for the public to criticise and critique.

@chronocommander: Yeah that's why Daniel and Mendes walks away with the big cheques. Most people wouldn't mind being in that position at all.

Crew is crew they are the same world wide, same work ethics same schedules regardless of the project. Plus crews are lucky to be working on a big show, considering they spend most of their time waiting in these types of movies.

So, apparently, most people don't know a thing about the character James Bond's early days or they wouldn't be condemning Craig as they are. He's not supposed to be suave and all that crap as he wasn't always the heartless womanizer that he was often portrayed as in his older years, Craig played Bond as he had just made 007 status and ended up emotionally scarred after the events of Casino Royale, hence the backdrop for Quantum of Solace and Skyfall.

SPECTRE should see us return to the days of Bond having a singular purpose: hunting down this nefarious group and it's leader, Blofeld.

I think Daniel was originally planning on leaving Bond to give a chance to a younger actor for the role, but after hearing a bunch of rumors of old actors that are his age trying to replace him, he's decided to stay.

Why vacate Bond if someone your age is replacing you. By doing one more Bond movie Daniel pretty much makes sure that nobody his age like Hugh Jackman or Damian Lewis will ever have a chance to play Bond. Thus ensuring that they replace him with a much younger actor.

He didn't impress me at first even though he appeared to be a very fit action hero because he wasn't as suave but that was just the beginning of Bond and now he has shown me how things are done with a little more detailed merit in his actions that perfection is that close. I think he is one of my favorite Bond actors now

All you people who say Brosnan was a good bond are Fing idiots.

Craig is a good bond. Quantum of solace was awful though.

I heard rumors about Idris Elba. But not sure what's to come of that. I wouldn't mind it. Guys a legend.

No women though please. This is still bond.

The next bond is supposed to be black... or a woman... or gay... because diversity.

F***, I'd rather have Daniel stick around for another decade before we're forced to see our favorite characters get thrashed just for the sake of "PC".

@4kgamer_lmxxx: Ehh, that's all just a rumor. Black would be fine; none of the things that define the Bond character require him to be white. A woman or gay I think would come off feeling like different character entirely. Might be a fine movie, I just can't imagine it being a Bond movie.

Still, after a couple dozen of these films, I'm fine with trying new things.

Craig's Bond movies are by far the best written and most entertaining, I mean who doesn't like Casino Royale? But Connery and Brosnan play the role much better. I do hope Craig sticks around!

Bond has been transformed from a playboy spy to a coldhearted killer with no morals but at least he is not "sexist" anymore according to the critique of the morally bankrupt pseudo-left. That is just the times we live in I guess but I am not interested in seeing this film.

Why not recast Pierce Brosnan as 007? Yeah, he is old but he could take on the role as an older Bond. I kinda like his recent movies only that he's playing more as a villain/anti-hero.

To play Bond "again" would he not have to pay Bond once already? Simply, he is not Bond. His character is a rather stupid, obtuse, charmless, and indulges in too many entirely "American" things. Poker and whisky...seriously? Sorry if it hurts anyone's fragile feelings but he is a Michael Bay wet dream not a suave badass that keeps to his gentlemanly airs even under threat of death.

@satsubatsu347: He's closer to the Bond of the books than any of the others have been. Minus the racism/sexism of course. After two dozen films and half a dozen different actors over 50 years, I guess not everybody is going to like all the Bond movies.

No reason why he should quit unless health reasons. He has the right profile and age for the Bond character. A younger, fitter, undamaged Bond would just be a cliche. Bond should always be a seasoned Veteran; A battle-damaged gentleman. That's part of his charm.

Woot! His Bond films have been my favorite, so far. It would have been a bummer for him to leave right after they introduced SPECTRE.

I think he's a pretty good Bond.

He's definitely a good actor, but he's definitely not memorable as a Bond.

I have a hard time remembering any of his lines from the past 3 films, which can't be said of most previous Bonds.

And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

It makes the things going on around him seem richer and more extraordinary.

@nl_skipper: I'm a bond fan. I hate daniel craig's portrayal. He isn't suave and doesn't have that bond charisma. Pierce Brosnan was the closest thing to the original sean connery portrayal as far as your debonair killing machine. Hell even roger moore did a better bond and those movies are campy as hell. At least he had that bond personality. Craig just sort of mumbles and grunts his way through and has added nothing to the franchise other than allowing for a whole lot of brand tie-ins. Which PS: Since when did bond drink beer, let alone heinekin? He's been drinking dom perignon and eating beluga caviar since the beginning. And anywho, God knows the bond studio will have trouble casting anybody other than a black man for the next bond since those sony emails were released. They'll have to wait till everybody forgets about those. But my vote for a better bond: Benedict Cumberbatch. I think he could bring the charisma and life back to a role that daniel craig has strangled into nothing but a blank stare.

Damian Lewis as Bond LOL. Right, Leprechaun Bond, I don't think so. The guy is like 45 years old, what's he gonna do 1 Bond and quit. Where do these ridiculous rumors come from.

Dan Stevens is probably the only good candidate at present if you're listening to rumors.

Anyone over 40 should immediately be ruled out since a new Bond is usually a 3-4 film deal.

@kazeswen: And Robert Downey JR. is 50 so what's your point? Damien Lewis is in good shape and would make a good Bond IMO, don't be so quick to judge since Daniel Craig is 47 and is still doing good Bond films.

@jameson420: Daniel should keep doing Bond cause he's good for it. He can do 2 more Bonds for all I care, I'd keep watching.

But you don't replace a 47 year old Bond with a 45 year old Bond. That's retarded. What the hell does Robert Downey Jr have anything to do with Bond?

If you replace Craig you replace him with a younger Bond that can work for another 10 years as the role, not some guy who's about the same age as Craig.

Damien Lewis looks like a Leprechaun, don't care what his shape is, the man is a cheesy TV star at best. There are tons of young actors who could pull off better Bonds than some over the hill Leprechaun looking guy. Try Dan Stevens for one, he's young and he looks like Bond, and certainly much better actor than Damien.

Nobody over 40 should even be considered to replace Craig, a replacement is usually a younger man, that's why they are replacing Craig because he's getting old, you don't replace old with more old.

So the notion of replacing Craig with Damian makes no sense they are the same age.

@tomenigma: I don't find him that captivating as Bond either, but I do think he has been in some of the franchises best films. I liked Pierce Brosnan... but he had the opposite problem of being in several of the worst bond films lol (though Goldeneye kicks ass).

@nl_skipper: Tomorrow Never Dies was the best Bond movie so far. Goldeneye was awesome too. But I agree Pierce's two latest Bond movies (Die Another Day, and The World is Not Enough) were some of the worst. Daniel Craig's only real good Bond movie was Casino Royal. Quantum was lackluster, (although I liked the bad guy in it) It seemed unfinished. (and not cleared in Skyfall)

I found Skyfall to be the most overrated of every Bond movie released, but it wasn't bad, just the most overrated. I hope Spectre to be better.

I'm very happy to hear this, Daniel is a great Bond, in my opinion, being dark and gritty. Casino Royale is probably my favorite movie from Craig; probably because the the Bahamas area with the crane fight scene is awesome he has a lot of charm in Casino Royale I think. Now, Skyfall was okay my least favorite Bond from Craig because he falls out of rhythm and he cant pass the physical exams, he is James Bond! He doesn't lose his touch damn it! All and all I am grateful for Daniel Craig's performance and am glad he is going to continue past this bond film.

Whenever Craig is done it'll take the team awhile to find the next Bond but not that long, there'll always be fit actors wanting a chance to land that role....so finding someone just means sifting through the hopefuls....

as for Craig's Bond I like.....he's comparable to the best and brings a grounded in reality approach which is nice....not to mention the stunts are just as epic as ever....I love the series...
