Cyberpunk 2077 Is Getting More Updates After All, New Info Coming Imminently

In a surprise announcement, CD Projekt Red announces Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2.

Surprise! CD Projekt Red still has more updates planned for Cyberpunk 2077, months after the Polish studio said it no longer had anyone working on the game. The studio has confirmed Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.2, which will introduce "new features" to the role-playing game. [Update: Details on what's new in Cyberpunk 2077's 2.2 update are now available.]

CD Projekt Red isn't ready to disclose what these features are but said it will host a video broadcast on December 10 where it will "dive deep" on what's coming to the game. The broadcast takes place at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 5 PM CET on December 10, and it will be streamed live on Twitch and YouTube.

At the end of May 2024, CD Projekt Red confirmed that, for the first time in 10 years, no one at the studio was working on Cyberpunk 2077. Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty expansion came out in September 2023, with the final major update landing in December 2023.

Cyberpunk 2077 originally launched in December 2020. It had a rough launch beset with major bugs and other issues; the problems were so bad that Sony even removed the game from sale on the PSN. CD Projekt Red steadily supported the game over time with numerous updates and improvements, and the PlayStation edition was reinstated on the PSN.

The game has gone on to sell more than 30 million copies, making it one of the most commercially successful video games in history.

In addition to this new Cyberpunk 2077 update, CD Projekt Red is working on multiple other projects right now, including The Witcher 4 and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

CP2077 is one of those games that'll get updates forever. Looking forward to a new playthrough of the CP2077 Remake on my RTX 6090 in 2029. Maybe the best game ever made.

Well the game still doesn't have all the promised features it would have so technically the game's version is 0.5. :DDD

I don't really get the love for CyberPunk. The universe itself is great from a lore point of view but having played it at launch (with no bug issues) and again after it was "fixed", I just couldn't force myself to play for any longer than 10 hours on both occasions because it just wasn't a very good game. The driving mechanics were terrible, the gunplay was bad, the enemies were bullet sponges, traffic would inexplicably just stop in your vicinity and refuse to move and the weapons were just RNG nonsense. I really struggle to understand why GTA 5 could feel like a living, breathing world and looked and played far better even though it was released long before Cyberpunk appeared. It's almost as if people have forced themselves to like it because of who developed it.

@just_visiting: I think it should never have been released on console. Even after all the updates.

@just_visiting: i enjoyed Cyberpunk a lot, I 100%'d the game in the 2 months following launch. I didnt really encounter any game breaking bugs back then on PC, just a few funny graphical bugs.

For context, I didn't like the Witcher games, and I wasn't really too hyped for Cyberpunk before launch, but bought it on a whim. So I wasnt a fan of the studio or anything.

I ended up enjoying the game for how much more linear it was than what was promised. If we got what they had promised, I probably would have been bored early on (not a fan of open world games... never enjoyed any of the GTA games). I liked the set pieces and story of Cyberpunk a lot, and enjoyed the gameplay too.

@just_visiting: CDPR really did a bad job with first 2 Witcher games but then Witcher 3 was surprisingly good so it made people hope CP2077 would be that good. CDPR used fake PR move to lie about the game a lot, this caused tons of hype so much despite the game is not that great, as they lied about the game the trauma they caused made people who were dreaming about the perfect game for 10 years deny the game is actually trash because to them it would be like admitting the religion they believe in proved to be fake. It means there were millions of people literally growed up dreaming for a perfect game in CP2077 so it kinda turned as a bad game people like for nostalgia.

I'm a huge fan of cyberpunk genre, I love open world games but even for me CP2077 is a trash game as it's hardly even a cyberpunk genre despite its name as it added nothing to the genre and it doesn't use most aspect of the genre. GTA 5 is trash too because I've played better games. To like CP2077 you really should've never played better games. The better games are Deus Ex 1, Fallout New Vegas, Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines, The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, et cetera. As for GTA 5 when GTA SA is at home GTA 5 is really not an improvement at all other than technical aspects that has nothing to do with fun player experiences. Instead of GTA 5 I prefer Saints Row 4.

Another thing about CP2077 is after its anime released it made kids who watched the anime wanna play the game. Honestly most of them has no idea about video game industry, I doubt they even played and enjoyed it. Their review is mostly about "it's so cool that I can visit the places in the anime" or something that has nothing to do with how the game is or they even played it. These are the people we can say "non-gamers" because they don't play games in general.

The last thing is the people forgot the lies of CDPR and they were desperate for a game because video game industry is trash since 2015, making even bad games of 2010s seems so better in 2020s standards. In that context CP2077 is a good game among the games released after 2015. Way better than Death Stranding for sure that's like modern Crazy Bus. :DDD

General opinion of people is CDPR is hated now. People may liked CP2077 despite they were lied and it's not the game promised but CDPR really hated unless their next game will be striking as much as Witcher 3. If it'll be another CP2077 then they have no future in the industry. I can even say most people who liked CP2077 never played Witcher 3 as especially CP2077 anime was huge factor for its current positive reviews.

@rolento25: Lol. I stopped at "the first 2 Witcher games blah blah blah". The TW2 is amazing. I think some people don't like story and characters in their games. So they buy a 200hr RPG and get angry at all the story and characters.

@just_visiting: CP2077 is a character and story driven RPG at it's core, so it makes sense that it's not everyone's favorite game. I can't get into GTAV or most Ubisoft open world games. Their worlds and characters just feel soulless, which ultimately feels pointless to me. In a world where most AAA games have become basic looter shooters, I'm really glad CP2077 exists... BG3 too but BG3 wasn't funded as a AAA game, a very successful Early Access release made that happen... So a big thanks to all the optimistic RPG lovers out there for that one. RDR2 is Rockstar's magnum opus. Next to CP2077, it's an amazing example on just the other side of the coin where life sim and story characters come together in an open world. The 2 greatest games ever made in my opinion. I wish Rockstar would spin out a more serious sim dev for games like RDR2, less like GTA.

It'll be nothing new. Probably just a PS5 Pro patch which would be enough to justify saying "new features".

@u233: I can only speak for PC, but I haven’t seen any significant bugs in a long time now. Cyberpunk turned into one of the best RPGs of the last several years; I highly recommend it.

@u233: It requires lots of quality of life improvements. Read rest of my message if you wanna know some bad aspects of the game that's not a spoiler.

- Scripted events are very immersion breaking. You open the door in stealth but the triggered NPC starts conversation with you behind walls as there is no way they would realize you were there.

- You and your partner is in stealth mode because you as a player chose so but your partner screams a lot but NPCs doesn't hear him.

- NPCs knocking on toilet doors even after you open the door and show them the toilet is empty. You can hear the knocking sound despite their fingers doesn't touch anything but air. Imagine rest of nonsense things NPCs does.

- Lots of copy-paste NPCs, it's especially bothering when you visit some street vendors standing in the same small area.

- NPCs don't shoot at you, they shoot at the position you were when they decided to shoot towards you. It makes dodging bullets so easily by just walking.

- Lack of 3rd person camera in 99.99% of the game without any way to see yourself other than finding mirror prevent players from realizing they completed the game naked because missions may remove your clothes lol.

Inventory screen is not something a person would necessarily use when you can finish the game without changing anything. Just your pistol is enough.

- Creepy inventory bug when you see V standing but as you rotate their body V's body parts may rotate in wrong directions and some parts doesn't rate at all lol.

- Map on HUD is bad when you driving a car because it shows very small part of the map around you. Still to this day it's the most requested change in the game.

- Radio is bothering and was buggy for me for couldn't close it and when I could close it it's annoying when it randomly turns itself on. Too bad the radio I mention is built-in inside of your head so not just in the car.

- Summoning your car can get so worst sometimes.

- Every mission in the game has same pattern of women you have to fight with, what happens and how it ends are same. Most of characters you talk in the game to complete missions is a woman.

- Mission's level design is very simple. Very obvious places to enter and exit.

- Performance issues in the DLC.

I would say story itself is buggy but it almost doesn't exist for how short it's as they made side content the actual aspect of the game lol.

@u233: Just finished as complete a playthrough as I'm capable of doing. I really took my time too. Spoke with every character, read every text, mission description and in multiple different orders for different outcomes. I also didn't fast travel at all and drove and walked everywhere. I just finished and chose the new ending added by PL and this game is an absolute masterpiece. I'm on PC and had a few RTX related bugs but that's really it after about 250 hours. I think my car may have got stuck on the environment but I acted on some very poor judgement and I have 50+ cars added through mods, so not sure whose fault that was. If you've completed The Witcher 3 it's a similar situation, you're not too sure what else will even compare to what you just finished playing. The question isn't if CP2077 is worth playing, the question is how shallow will every game fell when you're done. Play it and just do whatever comes natural to the character you're trying to play as and it will amaze you, I guarantee it... Take is slow too, it's not a game that's meant to be rushed. Enjoy it over the next few months. I really wish the game had some survival sim aspects like hunger and sleep. Trying to get home or renting a filthy motel for the night (which also happens, just not for sleep). Same for The Witcher 3, I wish it had some RDR2 mechanics like camping/hunting for food, renting a room at the local tavern, etc...

@u233: I played on PC/Xbox and the only real bug I ever had was the cross play between the two stopped working. I ended up finishing it on xbox. It has some issues but in my experience bugs werent one of them.
