Crytek websites taken down following 'suspicious activity'

Crysis developer's websites have been taken down following suspicious activity; users will be prompted to change their passwords once services are restored.

Crysis developer Crytek appears to have become the latest victim of hackers, according to a report by Blue's News.

No Caption Provided

A statement on Crytek.com said: "We recently became aware of suspicious activity relating to some of Crytek's websites, and acted quickly to take those websites offline for security reasons. We thank you for your patience, and expect to have these sites fully operational soon."

Crytek.com, Mycryengine.com, Crydev.net, and MyCrysis.com all currently display the message, while the developer's other sites, GFACE.com, Crysis.com, and Warface.com are unaffected.

According to the report, users will be prompted to change their passwords once normal service is restored.

Game publishers and developers have become attractive targets for online attackers in recent years, with other high-profile intrusions including those against World of Tanks creator Wargaming.net, Blizzard Entertainment, Ubisoft, and Sony's PlayStation Network.

A spokesperson for EA, Crysis 3's publisher, was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

Accounts, frikin accounts everywhere. Every developer and publisher wants to make sure we're not thieves, they need us to prove that we haven't stolen their product after we've purchased it. Crytek needs to verify the code on their server, - oh but wait, Gamespy shut down a while back so you have to make another account that you have to link to the current account or you can't play the multiplayer portion of the game that you've bought... with money! - Ea wants their share too on Origin, and Origin is everywhere, on PC, PS3, Xbox, wherever, Origin is the s**t, you gotta log into Origin. And we have to be always online guys, ALWAYS! Digital is the new caca, the future is digital, mofos! What was that, retro? You can't sell it? FU! What if the internet goes out? FU! But you just wanna play the damn game already? Well la di da, motherf****r, FU and deal with the fact that this is the future. "We lost our panties and hackers stole the passwords, you have to change it now, mmkay? It's not like we have responsabilities when we're promoting this always digital online bulls**t, duh..."

Thank you, GS. The earlier I find out about any such possible attacks, the better.

Hackers used to test systems to expose vulnerabilities, to show their skills and feed their ego. These days is to steal data and get money. F them.

I remember the shit-storm that followed the hacking of the Playstation Network not so long ago.

Doesn't seem like a big deal nowadays.

So much hacking lately, but it's puny hacking.

Hey hackers, you know there are these corrupt governments stealing from everyone and stuff, why don't you have some fun with them and do something worth mentioning? I bet there are lots of shady information waiting to be exposed and do some good for everyone

@Mega_Skrull Yeah cause that guy with his WikiLeaks ended up being charged with Rape and pretty much had a man hunt after him for doing exactly that. Oh, and now Snowden is the victim of an active manhunt for exposing the USA government's spying on its people (and others).

Exposing dirty secrets sounds nice on paper, but I wouldn't personally eff up my life for it.

@koospetoors They're apparently just starting stress testing of hardware again. Something happened with their partnership with Trion (to publish it) so things got halted for a while.

^ This level of response (in this day and age), is contemptible - the news is days old.

@s_h_a_d_o It's Crysis's problem...not EA's. EA doesn't own Crytek, they just publish the Crysis series.

Crysis 3 was a lot of fun IMO, had its faults for sure but it definitely took me longer than 5 hours to beat it, id say around 9 which is perfectly acceptable to me if its all triple A quality the entire ride which this was. No filler at all. I loved how they brought back the open locations more in vein with the first game as well. Plus the multiplayer is good and still very easy to find games at any time. Now if they would just tone down the stealth a little, and by that i mean a lot. It makes the game too easy even on harder difficulties, my biggest gripe.

Well, Crytek isn't quickest to respond to online irregularities. Their online multiplayer was riddled with cheaters beyond belief.

Probably mad at Crytek for charging $60 for a 5 hour campaign. Crysis is turning into COD.
