Crysis Remastered Coming To PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch

A remaster of the 2007 shooter was mistakingly revealed on Crytek's official website.

Can it run Crysis? That was the question put forward to any new gaming PC after Crytek's sci-fi FPS launched in 2007. The super-powered shooter was famous for its highly detailed tropical environments and freeform sandbox combat, and now it's coming to modern consoles and PCs in Crysis Remastered, according to a recent leak.

The remaster was revealed on Crytek's official website, seemingly inadvertently since it was quickly pulled back down. Word was confirmed shortly later with an official tweet.

Now Playing: Top New Video Games Releasing On Switch, PS4, Xbox One, And PC This Week -- April 12-18, 2020

Following the initial leak, Twitter user lashman dug into the site's metadata and discovered a product description for the game. It reads: "Crysis Remastered brings new graphic features, high-quality textures, and the CRYENGINE's native hardware--and API-agnostic ray tracing solution for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and--for the very first time--Nintendo Switch."

A splash image on the site also doubled down and reveals the platforms as PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The Intel Gaming Twitter account also got in on the act, before deleting the tweet. However, the Intel UK Twitter account still has a tweet live as of the time of writing.

The Intel Gaming Twitter account also announced the game before deleting the tweet.
The Intel Gaming Twitter account also announced the game before deleting the tweet.

The news isn't too surprising considering the Crysis Twitter account recently came out of hibernation to begin teasing something new. With references to Crysis protagonist Nomad, and the splash image using an almost identical pose to the original game's boxart, it's probably safe to assume that this is a remaster of the first game only, and none of its sequels will be included.

The last game in the series, Crysis 3, was released in 2013 and was also developed by Crytek. The company shut down some studios in 2015 amid financial troubles, but most recently put out Hunt: Showdown in 2018.

The original Crysis was awarded 9.5/10 in GameSpot's Crysis review, with Jason Ocampo saying, "If you put it all together, Crysis is just remarkable. This is a game that pushes the envelope in terms of both technology and gameplay and does so with aplomb. Crysis raises the expectations for every shooter to follow when it comes to graphics, interactivity, environments, immersiveness, AI, and gameplay. Quite simply, Crysis represents the first-person shooter at its finest, most evolved form."

The original was a horrible optimization fiesta. I remember crysis 2 running better on my GTX 280 than the original.

Wuuuuuttttt, OMG I am Crying a Tech river now. I have been waiting for this since the XB1 first launched from my favorite game franchise & company of all time. Luckily Crysis 1-3 is backwards compatible on XB1, but I cannot wait for a remaster & hopefully it will be a major graphics overhaul & not some skimpy remake. I will buy it regardless to support my fav company & hopefully you guys can put out a Crysis 4...please, please, please. My fav of the series was Crysis 2 & I hope that also gets a remaster as well.

Crytek was way ahead of it's time & the games still holds it's ground today and is still more fun to play than many of the new gen garbage games. LOVE the armor & cloak suit & it felt so futuristic.

My fav franchises are Crysis 1-3, Fear 1-3, Titan Falls 1-2, SW Battlefront 1-2, Aliens FPS, & Terminator and I love the games of the latter TWO, even though they had poor ratings... cuz there is nothing else in those franchises to play so it is that or nothing at all. I have always thought to myself if there is anyone who can make a spectacular Aliens, Aliens vs Predator, or Terminator FPS it would be Crytek!

Imagine a Crytek Aliens vs Predator vs Terminator FPS with online multiplayer PVP & PVE. You put in both FPS & endless wave modes & various modes just like GEARS 5 & also a stealth mode like Fri 13th & Alien Isolation. Who would not buy a game such as this, even if they take a few years to add all the components gradually to release a bit at a time? Or they use same engine & assets and make 2 versions of the game, a FPS & a stealth game..voila!

Remasters are just lazy. Make a new game already.

Benchers love the thousand barrel map. I just loved the suit and the weapon config. Game was ahead of it's time, a shame the sequels weren't that ambitious gameplay wise, instead being simplified with button holding wich gave you unrealiable controls.

Well at least the PC version will have ray tracing, and a lot more higher resolution textures.

Cool, my PC will defo run it but wonder what FPS I will get with it's settings maxed out. Will be funny to try that.

I have been keeping some money aside for the upcoming Nvidia 3080 or the TI variant if the price isn't completely ludicrous, so I will able to try some Ray Tracing then. Currently using a GTX 1080TI and it's been really good.

Pleased that they are remastering my favourite and the best one in the series, being quite an open non-linear game, i'm happy with this decision 🙂

maximum hyped!!!

man, i love crysis 1 and wars (warhead's multiplayer) on pc, when i got into power struggle, it was freakend crazy trying to destroy the u.s. hq and keep denying my teammates plea for help by doing do those quick response say "no" and "negative" as a north korean solider on mesa.

i'm not used to mouse and keyboard and the support for xbox 360 controllers was crappy compared to call of duty 4 on consoles with it's controller setup and looking sensitivity, until crysis 2 came along (did tried to play the pc demo after i was maxed up on the ps3 demo) and have call of duty 4 and up controls but slower sensitivity but better than battlefield's.

if the crysis remastered is coming, i want it's multiplayer to come with it too with team deathmatch (the original only have death match and power struggle) along with the other 2 modes (death match (might not touch it) and power struggle (probably play it 24/7).

here are my controls for when your not in any vehicles (for xbox one and pc with xinput (xbox 360/one controller input):

LT= hold to aim

LB= tap to cloak (shortcut) and again to uncloak, hold to access nanosuit abilities and weapon customization (use right stick to select and let go of LB).

RT= fire weapon

RB= throw grenades/flashbang, hold to select grenade type

L-stick= movement, press and hold to normal sprint, double press and hold to maximum speed.

R-stick= look, press to crouch, press and hold to prone

A= tap to normal jump, hold to power jump (jump higher than normal)

B= melee, continuous tapping to speed melee (faster than normal), press and hold to do a 1 hit kill melee

X= manually reloading weapons and interact with objects

Y= switch next weapon (not fists)

Dpad UP= fists

Dpad DOWN= drop current weapon

Dpad LEFT= press for binocular, hold for night vision

Dpad RIGHT= switch claymore/rocket launch/c4

i'm sure the sensitivity would be like "warfarce" on console version (only played the switch version).

"switch" version: i don't mind it look exactly like it was in 2007 on max setting, but when you play it in handle held mode (i mostly don't play it that way), i hope you can use it's touch screen for changing the weapon's attachment and buying a weapon in power struggle.

all version: let us, use a mouse and keyboard for anything, even if we use a gamepad controller too.

FINAL NOTE: i don't see the copyright for EA, should EA be on there, unless crytek brought the publishing license from EA, whom did publish the crysis series.

@twogirlsonecub: raytracing for pc version and higher texture resolution with a good optimization is a next generation , the original game from 2007 still amazing and realistic with 4k 60fps on gtx 1080 ti sli ,

@twogirlsonecub: You seem to labor under the misconception that next console will somehow make it better. Top end single GPU gaming systems today still have problems running it (at 4K anyway), and even still the PC is still going to be the lead platform in development with this remaster.

I remember Crysis as a fun little sandbox that doesn't overstay its welcome.

Whatever they are doing with this, I hope they are at least building the best looking, best running version of the game to date. I would give it another go. Can't say the same for the sequels.

I expected more from Crytek, they just don't care. In 10 years time, remaster 2, mark my words.

@ganondorf77: unless they bust a activision (mw2 remastered not having a multiplayer and spec ops) not including crysis's multiplayer then, there's no point of me buying it for the 3rd time (1st was the pc, 2nd was the ps3 version (a lot of stuff cut from the pc version), i rather hook up my ps3 and play the campaign (better gamepad support than the original pc version).
