Crysis On Switch Shows Off Its Improved Physics In A New Short Clip

The Switch can definitely run Crysis--and a new tweet promises that it will improve on the original PC version.

Crysis Remastered is coming to Switch on July 23, and considering that the original 2007 game famously required a very powerful PC to run, many players are curious about how it will translate to Nintendo's hybrid console. Now, a new (very short) gameplay clip gives us some indication of how it will handle.

The three-second clip below, recorded directly from a Switch, shows off the Remastered edition's improved environment destruction and vegetation bending. There's a few other details to glean from it too--like the impressive draw distance--but three seconds isn't much to work with. Still, it confirms that the Switch iteration of the game seeks to improve on the 2007 powerhouse, when often Switch ports are more basic.

While the Switch version is launching this month, the PC, Xbox One, and PS4 versions have been delayed, and we'll have to wait to see what further tweaks or improvements they introduce. In a follow-up tweet, the official Crysis account has promised that more news on the other versions will be coming soon.

This is the first time the Crysis series has appeared on a Nintendo console. The Switch port is being handled by Saber Interactive, the studio behind the console's version of The Witcher 3.

Hopefully Crysis Remastered on Switch will be another strong port.

i still think it'll still play the same as ps3 and xbox 360 version, which the control mechanic is a little outdated.

better quality: http://www.crysis.com/

@btotheotothejtothef: The clip in the article is for the game running on "potato" mode. its not the 3 second clip they talk about.

Why are they bringing back this game? I know it was a computational benchmark, but that was 13 years ago.

@Radar: you're quite right it was the benchmark, however owning a pc 13 years ago to run this was seriously expensive, not everyone could afford to run it.

Now its on the consoles, its still a great game even though its probably scaled back on the ps4 base model, however new comers and people like myself who have only played the second (widely available on ps3) can play the original.

With this on the switch and better than the original and ps4 version or other base models available now, i still haven't played it, i may just on the switch or ps4/5 with the new mechanics (if its coming to the other consoles).

Far cry should be next, i have the xbox original version and it doesn't even come close to the pc version, not a bad game but drastically different, but still a great game.

:)

@itchyflop My only problem with Crysis was that it was Far Cry with a supersoldier main character. Some of the locations are direct copies.

@Radar: Not direct copies but similar in setting in areas.

Both games were designed to push the pc hardware and at the time only a top pc could run them, i would argue even today still to get the best, the consoles are not too far behind with new mechanics added ect.

This was the point, console owners just couldn't get this fidelity and sheer grunt in terms of frame rates and pretty visuals like far cry (2004).

Crysis (2007) only built on this "setting" imo and pushed the design further.

There still great games, in fact iv just purchased far cry on ps4 (original pc version) and it still looks ok !!!

Give crysis a go its very good, i enjoyed the second on ps3, and with the additional game mechanics added it only makes these classics great imo.

Or maybe im looking at this through nostalgic eyes and being an older gamer, its good to revisit the classic styles, feel etc

I know gaming has moved on somewhat!! lol

@Radar: This company has been struggling to stay a float. this maybe a quick easy way for them to get a game out there and some revenue coming in.

plus the game is fun. hiding in the bushes, the shooting, and back in the day the graphics were second to non.

It will be pretty impressive technically if they can get this to run with little to no loss in quality.
