Call Of Duty: Vanguard File Size Will Be "Significantly" Smaller Than Past Games

The file size will be up to 50% smaller thanks to "new on-demand texture streaming tech," Activision says.

Activision has announced that the file size for Call of Duty: Vanguard will be "significantly" smaller than previous entries in the series, which have been criticized for being massive.

In a tweet, Activision said Vanguard uses "new on-demand texture streaming tech" to help save up to 50% of storage space on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as PC.

Now Playing: Call of Duty: Vanguard - Official Story Trailer

As mentioned, games like Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, among others, have been called out for their large file sizes that only grow bigger with ongoing updates.

Activision did not announce a specific file size for Vanguard yet, however, so it remains to be seen just how significant the storage space solution may be. But whatever the case, this is seemingly good news.

Vanguard launches on November 5 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, as well as PS4 and Xbox One. The new game will launch as Activision Blizzard faces a lawsuit from the state of California over alleged harassment and discrimination against women.

I just reinstalled Cold War and that s*** is 161.9GB, now. Absolutely ridiculous. I’m playing on a PS4 Pro with an external HDD, so at least I have 3TB, but I’d be even more pissed if I were on PS5.

I’d get 4 games on there if every game were this stupidly large. Especially since the PS5 makes you have way more storage than is actually required, for some games.

I’ve seriously had to remove a couple games, to install a new one, because it said I didn’t have enough storage, even though I had around 10GB more than what the game took up. Then I was able to reinstall those two games, with the new one on. That was super annoying.

It felt good deleting COD off my Xbox to make room for newer games. I’ll be skipping this years COD for sure due to crazy file sizes. Even with this streaming feature, I doubt it will make a noticeable dent.
