Brutal Legend Dev Remembers Lemmy Kilmister

1945-2015.

Legendary rocker Lemmy Kilmister died on Monday just days after discovering he had an aggressive form of cancer, the band reported last night. Tributes from musicians have poured in--and now, Brutal Legend developer Double Fine has offered its own response about the passing of the Motörhead founding member.

A character based on Kilmister, named Kill Master, was featured in Double Fine's metal-themed action game Brutal Legend. Kilmister voiced this character, who was also a bassist.

Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne, and Lita Ford also make appearances in the game.

The Rock Band and Rocksmith Twitter accounts also offered their own condolences.

Ian Kilmister, known best by his stage name Lemmy, learned of his "extremely aggressive" form of cancer on December 26. He died two days later in Los Angeles, according to CBS News. He was 70.

"We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren't words," reads a line from the band's statement. "We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy's music LOUD."

According to Motörhead's statement, Lemmy was playing a video game when he died.

"He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made its way down the street, with his family," it said.

@bdous: Rainbow bar. He had his own personal spot with his own game machine. They brought it to him on his last day.

In memory of Lemmy MS should make Brutal Legends backwards compatible by any means necessary

I really wish Brutal Legend was a hack and slash as promised. Great soundtrack, great voice cast, nice visuals, but horrid gameplay.

RIP Lemmy.

@DrunkenPunk800: I actually LOVED the gameplay until I got to those weird RTS parts. That's what killed it for me.

@jcharp: The RTS parts killed it for me too... until i found out that they were actually fun. I need to replay that game sometime.

I remember getting in and out of the car 70 times until "when the night falls" or "cry of the banshee" comes on. Good times.

Then i discovered there was a button to change the tracks.

Lemmy passed away from cancer while playing one of the games from a Merit Megatouch bartop machine. He would spend hours on them at the Rainbow Bar & Grill

See, now the universe is all out of balance again. God takes Lemmy, which God we will never know, but science beat religion years ago....intimating that man made God...but I read everywhere that Lemmy was a God...its this kind of theological arsecakery that makes people like me end up writing halfarsed, badly thought out posts on gaming websites....**** it, whoevers running the hot tap do us all a favour, please now take Mariah Carey..balance will be restored and I can go back to trying to invent a duvet that doubles up as a personal blow job machine... :-)

@RogerioFM: Bruce Campbell thinks Bruce Campbell is god, he is, of course, wrong, there's only one true god, the rhinestone cowboy himself, Glen Campbell...so, you were kinda right clan, wrong idol...it happens :-)

@gadgeroo: You mean like the scientists who were devout Christians and progenitors in their fields? Newton, Pascal, Galileo (yes, he's included, read a little), Pasteur, and Kepler were all believers. Your views suggest far too much time playing video games and not enough time reading history. Try it, you won't look as ignorant as you do.

@Rambolike: Newton, Pascal, Galileo, Pasteur and Kepler ?? oh i remember those dudes, they were the original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd ..weren't they ? Stop acting as if this is the set of Good Will Hunting , if you were as smart as you allude to be then you'd be boring the twat off some poor bastard on the Mensa forum pages. I hadn't realised I had swanned into a christian science reading room. In celebration of my new found ignorance I'll say no more than " go **** yourself "... Seems a fair comment from such a caveman eh ?

who the **** reads something like my original post and then deems to take any part of it seriously ?

Get a sense of humour sunshine :-)

@Rambolike: BS what evidence do you have any of those people were religious.. just because you list a bunch of names and say so, doesn't make it true. Half the people you mention were directly involved in discrediting the entire first chapter. Galileo was convicted of heresy.. need I go on?

It'd be nice to know the name of the game he was playing. As a gamer I can't imagine a better way to go.

@Redsyrup: I remember a clip from an interview or documentary that showed him always at one of those legendary Sunset Strip bars playing like one of those closed circuit trivia games that the entire bar could play together and it emphasized how much he enjoyed it. Since the last paragraph mentioned "The Rainbow", I'm guessing that's what he was doing.

@phbz: Yeah looks like it was a poker game. I read @Moonco comment and then these and did a search. Found an article that said "The poker videogame is not here tonight. Allegedly, Lemmy had it brought to his second home -- his actual house -- nearby for his amusement during his final days."
