Borderlands 4 Release Date Moved Up, State Of Play Coming Tomorrow

Gearbox's looter-shooter is now coming a few weeks sooner.

Gearbox has announced a change for Borderlands 4's release date. But it's not a delay. Instead, Borderlands 4 has shifted forward a few weeks and will now launch on September 12. It was previously set for release on September 23. A Sony State of Play broadcast dedicated to Borderlands 4 is coming tomorrow, April 30, at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET.

In the State of Play, viewers can expect 20 minutes of "developer-guided gameplay, including missions, killer weapons, exciting Action Skills, new and returning characters, and more."

Borderlands 4's previous September 23 release date lined up with the launch-date for Bungie's Marathon, but the games will no longer release on the same day.

Borderlands 4 is in development for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2. It is a sequel to 2019's Borderlands 3.

That game was 2K's fastest-selling game of all time and has shipped more than 22 million copies. Borderlands 2, meanwhile, is 2K's best-selling game ever with more than 30 million units sold. In total, the Borderlands franchise has sold more than 91 million units.

For me, Borderlands 3 was pure fun, but Borderlands 2 with UHD textures update and FOV slider is now definitely the best Borderlands experience! Can't wait for the 4th! 😀

I’ve really enjoyed the borderlands franchise, been playing since the first originally launched on Xbox 360. But I feel like I’ve had my fill. Unless 4 does something radically different and evolves the borderlands formula, I’m not interested 🤷🏻‍♂️

So what release are they trying to avoid competing with? GTA? Marathon is the only other game from a big dev I know coming out around then, but I don't feel like that justifies the move.

Don't feel like it generates that much hype moving the release date up this far in advance, so feels like a defensive move.

Sony has really been a joke this gen. Haven't had a state of play in ages, haven't had any real standout PS releases in even longer, and they decide fucking Borderlands 4 gets its own state of play.

What a waste of all that goodwill

@Hellknite190: What a moronic comment. Sony has been killing it.

Going into the, "well, if it's ever free" pile. I don't enjoy these solo and BL3 drove away my couch co-op partner with it's bugs and story. Best of luck though, I still check in.

They only did that because Gearbox didn't want to compete against Marathon. Smart move to skip Sept 23rd and move it back to Sept 12th. But still, I'm NOT buying BL4. I have retired that series after playing Tiny Tina Wonderland.
