Blue Dragon flies again on DS

D3Publisher bringing Eternal Sonata developer's latest to North America next spring; Awakened Shadow picks up two years after Xbox 360 original.

When Microsoft was preparing to launch the Xbox 360, it took a number of steps to ensure the console would fare better in Japan than its predecessor. One such move was to commission a role-playing game from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakuguchi and Dragon Ball architect Akira Toriyama. That game, 2007's Blue Dragon, helped spark Japanese interest in Microsoft's console and earned a Japan Game Award from the organizers of the Tokyo Game Show, but couldn't propel the Xbox 360 ahead of its main competitors.

Blue Dragon returns next spring with Awakened Shadow on the DS.

Now Blue Dragon appears to be getting a second life on the DS. Earlier this year, the series made its debut on Nintendo's dual-screened portable with Blue Dragon Plus, and now D3Publisher of America has announced that it will be releasing Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow for the portable in spring of 2010.

Awakened Shadow will see the series get its third developer in as many games. The original game was created by Mistwalker, with the first sequel entrusted to Mother 3 developer Brownie Brown. For Awakened Shadow, development duties have been given to Tri-Crescendo, the studio behind the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 RPG Eternal Sonata. Tri-Crescendo is also working on Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon.

Its a good RPG for the experienced ones like me, and i personally expected far more since it was sort of a drem team again, part Chrono Trigger and part FF, but i did enjoy it, but now they i have lend it to my nephews, i have seen its more of a newbies RPG, more for the kids, and my nephews love it =D I hope they can do a second one, a little more Chrono like ^^ And i also hope they make a franchise out of Lost Odyssey , like FF or/and Tales for example ^^

I was expecting Blue Dragon 2 for Xbox 360 but I never thought DS would get another BD game so soon especially since Blue Dragon Plus just got release earlier this year.

And I just bought the import!... Oh well. At least it's coming here. Thats good news for BD fans. But yes, we need another 360 game. I wonder what happened to Blue Dragon 2, it seems to have disappeared.

i only liked the blue dragon for the 360 and ya it was as good as all the other RPG i played. and yes you can make a sequel out of anything look at FF there are only a few that are acturally sequels of one another.

actually LO and Blue Dragon in the end were both rated fairly evenly and neither to the level of Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia, or the most recent sleeper hit demon souls ontop of that Blue Dragon is open for sequels while LO is not as much, although i suppose you can make a sequel out of anything

Blue Dragon earned Game of the Year in Japan on the Xbox 360. The game has become very popular with its great storyline and anime. I think its appropriate that Blue Dragon has migrated to the Nintendo DS.

I agree with Kiramasaki. I want a sequel for the 360. the first game was rather enjoyable. Not to mention the anime series based on the game was pretty cool.
