Assassin's Creed Infinity - Everything We Know About Ubisoft's Game Hub

GameSpot may receive revenue from affiliate and advertising partnerships for sharing this content and from purchases through links.

Following Assassin's Creed Mirage, the series will live within a hub known as Infinity.

Assassin's Creed Infinity is an upcoming multiple-games-in-one-package service hub. Infinity is a portal through which players can play multiple Assassin's Creed experiences--it sounds a lot like Netflix or Xbox Games Pass, but solely for Assassin's Creed games. Below, we've rounded up everything we know about Infinity, including the two games already confirmed for the service hub.

Release date

We don't yet know when it is coming out, though Assassin's Creed Infinity reportedly won't launch until 2024 at the earliest.

Now Playing: Future Of Assassin's Creed: What Is Project Infinity?

What we know

Infinity is the current placeholder name for an upcoming Assassin's Creed hub that will host a variety of games that feature multiple locales and historical periods. Multiple games are being packaged together, with the potential for each to play differently and utilize unique mechanics and settings.

"Infinity is not a game, per se," executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté said during Ubisoft Forward 2022. "It's going to be the single entry point for our fans into the Assassin's Creed franchise into the future. Infinity is going to be a hub that will unite all our different experiences and our players, together in meaningful ways."

We know of two games currently planned for the Infinity hub: Project Red, an Assassin's Creed game set during feudal Japan, and Project Hexe, which appears to feature a witchy vibe.

Côté said Project Red will be the company's "next premium flagship title," following 2023's Assassin's Creed Mirage. "It will let players explore one of their most-awaited settings ever in the franchise, feudal Japan, and they'll live a very powerful shinobi fantasy," Côté said. It's possible the protagonist for Project Red was leaked in October 2023--Ubisoft senior writer Pierre Boudreau (who is working on Project Red) briefly changed his LinkedIn banner image to that of a female shinobi and the symbol of the Assassin Brotherhood.

No Caption Provided

Project Hexe, meanwhile, will be helmed by the Assassin's Creed Valhalla team in Montreal, and it's being led by Clint Hocking, who previously directed Watch Dogs: Legion and Far Cry 2. Ubisoft hasn't shared as many details about this game so it's presumably still more of a concept at this point, but Côté did say it's "a very different type of Assassin's Creed."

Also of note, Assassin's Creed narrative director Darby McDevitt returned to Ubisoft in November 2021. The writer has been instrumental in shaping the lore behind the long-running series, so he would presumably be tapped to work on all the projects that are a part of Infinity. However, neither Ubisoft nor McDevitt has confirmed whether that is the case.

Platforms

Ubisoft has not yet announced the launch platforms for Infinity. Since it's reportedly coming in 2024 or later, there's a good chance it skips the Xbox One, PS4, and Switch. We assume the hub will launch for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.

PC system specs

We don't yet know the PC system specs for the Infinity hub.

Trailers

Ubisoft hasn't released any cinematic or gameplay trailers for Infinity, but we have gotten trailers for Project Red and Project Hexe, both of which will be included in Infinity.

After many requests from fans, Assassin's Creed is finally going to feudal Japan in a game codenamed "Red." Project Red is being helmed by the team responsible for Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Following Japan, the mainline Assassin's Creed series will go in a supposedly very different direction, telling a story that is being helmed by the team responsible for Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Preorder details

Infinity is not yet available for preorder and likely won't ever be. Until told otherwise, we assume it will launch alongside the release of Project Red, the first game scheduled to be a part of the hub.

I really hope they make this hub for the fans and not be coined "Assassin's Greed". A central spot to explore all of the titles, DLCs, stories / novels, fan art similar to what some collections do nowadays, will be excellent.

I'm a massive fan of the Assassin's Creed series. I've loved nearly all of them, save for some of the latest entries.

Odyssey was by far the worst in terms of fitting into AC IMO, and Black Flag was a great 'pirate' game, but not an Assassin's Creed game. The rest I've enjoyed. Oh, and the bugs everyone talks about? Never found them, as I'm always about a year or two late to the party. Sometimes a great perk of being a dad with kids, I don't get to the new releases until they're heavily discounted, and by then, they're patched! I even loved Unity although everyone didn't because of the "faces" bug, never experienced it.

I'm not even that excited for "Red", which I don't think will hold a candle to Ghost of Tsushima. I've already played it Ubisoft, you had your chance, move along. I enjoyed the 2D title in China too with the female protagonist, having the hidden blade in her boot. Was great. But again, you could have expanded this setting into a full game.

The only titles I have yet to play are Syndicate, Valhalla, and the latest Mirage.

Can we get a remaster for AC IV: Black Flag? I've been holding off playing it, assuming that a re-master will be around the corner. Just give us some high res textures, at least.

I wouldn't mind a higher res version of AC: Unity as well - as that'd graphically shine at a higher res!

@christophersays: I do not believe there will be, at least not for a long while. Or they would have done it already.

Is Ubisoft gonna be surprised when this ends up being the least popular AC game yet?

I'm not feeling the whole 'game as service' route. I like my games to tell a story or on a more basic level just be entertaining, but at some point it needs an ending. I want a complete experience for my money and that just won't happen with such a model.

I also feel that the assassin's creed games would be better on a smaller scale. The last ones felt big for the sake of being big. The aegean sea and egypt were awesome locations but after so many hours they do lose there appeal. You're left with water and sand.

Should have just ditched AC as a series with the newest two games, only bad parts about them were the AC baggage. Also service monetization is a no go. Someone else out there just keep making open world RPG standalone games with historic settings, there's a big market for that.

On this Game Length topic..

As an avid gamer more quality time in game is good.

But from a games reviewer/entity perspective less time in game is less "work" from job to job, review to review, which from that perspective shorter is "better".

I think that plays into this discussion as well.

I'd rather smaller than larger for AC as well; the last few have gotten boring well before the main quest lines were done, even ignoring most of the side stuff. Going smaller would allow Ubisoft to hand craft more unique content, instead of filling these massive maps with a bunch of repeatable activities that feel procedurally generated.

That said, if Infinite is a bunch of different settings, that can each be smaller and more bespoke than your average AC game, that doesn't sound too bad either, even if the game as a whole is bigger than ever.

@mogan: Unity, Syndicate, Revelations, etc were small. But so bad and full of bugs and filler. So small and huge is not the thing here I think. It is creativity.

@daidochus: I really liked Syndicate and Revelations (even though that one was really just AC2 for the third time). Unity felt like they'd spent most of their time getting new tech to work on new consoles and didn't have enough time to make much of a game with it (kind of like the original).

Origins, Odessey, and Valhalla all feel like their main stories have been stretched super thin just so they'll drag the player across the whole of a map that's way too big.

I'd like Ubisoft to try an Outer Worlds sized Assassin's Creed, but really make all parts of it feel hand crafted and unique. I'll take 40 good hours to 100% an AC game over 120 boring ones.

@mogan: This is the reason I havent played an Assassins Creed game since Black Flag. They are just too bloated. Too many hours needed for too much air.

Ashame because I love the lore.

@mogan: I 100% agree with this statement: "I'll take 40 good hours to 100% an AC game over 120 boring ones.". The original Mass Effect games were perfect in that way - they felt epic, but each could be finished in 30 to 60hrs.

Also, just so happens I'm nearly that 120hr mark, but I still have the Francia DLC, the 340 lvl area of map, and this new 'closing chapter' of game just released last week to complete. Gonna take a break for a while. Did really like the 'Wraith of the Druids' DLC though, although the story was a bit weak, the smoke concept was cool.

@mogan: Origins was a fresh stroke of paint.. Odyssey is maybe their most grand game yet technically, without too much compromise. But Odyssey felt so small and a bit outdated compared to Oddysey.

Valhalla was awful with garbage combat system and terrible design.

My favourite is still Black Flag.

"If they take my advice". I honestly hope they do NOT. Also, there's absolutely NOTHING in the game that prevents you from bypassing all the extras, collectables, side missions, etc, to complete the game. NADA. You can follow the main quest to your heart's content.

Make a smaller game. You're out of your mind. Some of us gamers LOVE these huge open worlds filled with smaller missions, side missions, explorables, etc. Stop putting your opinion as facts. More people want the larger worlds KEPT than those that want smaller worlds. Also, just an fyi, if they do make a smaller game people will complain for weeks about how they changed the game.

I totally enjoy the larger open worlds in the last three AC games (Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla). Valhalla for me was much less compelling/enjoyable due to progress stalling hidden keys hunts for locked doors and chests that artificially extended play time. That said I totally enjoyed all three games and prefer the direction the single player experiences AC has gone mainly due to large, varied open worlds to explore and easily 100+ hours of gaming enjoyment.

I have seen this “Game’s too big…” chant by some and I suspect it is partly due to slow progress WRT collecting/earning achievements and 100%’ing the game since players must explore the game world which takes time. Also it seems many players race to “beat” a game before others versus taking time to enjoy what is actually IN the game and not being spoon fed their achievements is frustrating for them.

Bottom-line: The priority for me is maximum amount of in-game fun and the last priority is racking up achievements.

As long as my time exploring any open world game is compelling and fun I feel the game has done an awesome job of making my time worthwhile…the bigger the better.

Lastly WRT AC Infinity…I don’t enjoy multiplayer modes and no matter what Ubi does I hope they end up creating a large interesting and compelling AC single player experience.

I've never cared less for Assassin's Creed. Should be called Assassin's Greed these days. I'm done with Ubisoft now, their games seem to regress in quality, they are full of worthless microtransactions and the DLC is weak! The company itself sounds evil in the press these days. I really cannot condone giving these sleezebags money.

Sounds kind of bad, but still too early to tell. The thing is that AC pretty much works like this already. They make a base game (AC:3, AC Origin) and then they use that template for a number of sequels and DLC:s.

So the difference may not be as large as people thinks.

What we also know is that its an open world game made by one of the shittiest developers in the whole gaming industry. The chance of this game being garbage is 100%. Yes, you heard it, 100%. There are not even a single percent chance of it being a good game. They will gate and have a metric shitload of inconveniences just so you say "**** it" and visit their outrageously overpriced store to skip the bullshit THAT THEY INCLUDED IN THE GAME for your $60.

POS dev making POS games. Wouldn't play their shit even for free.

@hardwenzen: Man, you get post banned by them or something? That's a boatload of hate for a single developer. For starters, Ubisoft is by no means one of the "$hittiest" developers in the gaming industry. You kidding? That title, alone, belongs to EA. Activision comes in at a very close 2nd. So, here's the thing. You DON'T want to buy all the bits and bobs they sell online? Guess what? YOU DON'T HAVE TO! Man, it's exhilarating to know you can hold your wallet down. Ubi has, in almost every previous game they've sold it in, been amazing at their DLC packages for extending their games. Also, just so we're clear, their games are 1. NOT garbage and 2. Some of the best loved and selling games of all time. However, according to YOU, their games suck, have no value, are price gauged beyond belief and Ubi goes through hoops to inconvenience gamers? Absolutely NOTHING you wrote is true. A personal opinion, yeah. True? Not so much.

I was wondering how Ubisoft was going to squeeze more money out of us after their NFT and battle royale ventures failed.

And this is it.

If you look at games like Anno 1800 (a great game, by the way) it's like 49.99 for the game. I think now they're on Season Pass 4, with each season pass costing about 20-40 dollars.

So to get the whole game, you need to spend close to 200 dollars.

"That's too much!" we say, and sales go down.

"Hmmmm...how do we charge people the same amount, but make it so they don't know!" and in walks "Games as a Service" and it says "Don't worry, blokes, we can charge them for service. The game will be cheap, even free! But we keep the on the line for years on end and drip-bleed them 5-10 dollars at a time!"

BRILLIANT! And terrible.
