Apple Delays AirPod Launch

The $160 wireless headphones need "a little more time."

Apple's new wireless headphones, Airpods, will not launch in October as expected.

The technology giant told GameSpot sister site CNET that it needs "a little more time" to finish the product before launch. "The early response to AirPods has been incredible," a spokesperson told CNET. "We don't believe in shipping a product before it's ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers."

Apple did not provide a new release date for the headphones; they were previously expected to launch in late October. The official AirPods website still lists them as being available in October.

Airpods were announced in September as part of the iPhone 7 reveal. As rumors suggested, the iPhone 7 does not have a headphone jack. AirPods will cost $160 when they eventually become available to buy.

The new headphones offer only five hours of battery life, although you can charge them by simply sticking them in their carrying case, which gives 24 hours of battery life. They can connect to an iPhone or Apple Watch by simply placing them near the device, and you can access Siri by double tapping one of them while they're in your ears.

In other Apple news, the company recently reported earnings. For the first time in 15 years, Apple's annual revenue declined. Get the full report here.

Apple is surely the leader of anti consumer corporate-fascism in consumer electronics. I am not sure if there is a more despicable company in this industry.

@edinko: I'm sure most business entrepreneurs would do the same as Apple if they knew their clientele base would throw down money no matter how asinine the product they were putting out in the marketplace to begin with.

Truly pathetic what consumerism and materialism will do to one's logic.

Honestly the worst product I have seen from them, possibly from anyone in terms of its concept.

In the UK we have a programme called 'Dragon's Den' where entrepreneurs pitch ideas to wealthy investors to try and get their investment. This would get shot down so quickly on that show.

If I want to go for a run, or do exercises like press ups, there is no chance those things are staying in. And if you lose one or both, suck it pay £150 for a new pair. Give over apple this is worse than the Apple Pencil!

For the record I have a MacBook pro and iPhone so clearly not an android fanboy. These are just logical but hugeeee flaws!

I can just hear it now, all the parents bitching about how their kid lost one of their headphones or how one got chewed up by the dog or fell out and got stepped on or any of the other plethora of accidents that can happen with these. And then you're looking at $160 replacement every single time something happens to them. Dumbest idea ever. And people will stand in line for miles waiting to buy into this travesty. People never learn.

"We don't believe in shipping a product before it's ready,"

really? because i seem to remember iphones that BEND in peoples pockets...or does that not count?

I also seem to remember a certain brand of iphone that had poor reception...because the receptor was positioned on the wrong side of the phone compared to other phones and Apple's response was "well just hole your hand on this part and it corrects the issue".

Buuuuuut i guess we're gunna pick and choose the good memories only now aren't we?

Talk about proprietary. Many an achievements in technical marvel Apple has come up with, however this isn't one.

@Anutha_One: That's their whole point. They will make billions in sales of these and licensing fees for other companies to make their own version. No memory expansion slot. A premium for versions with expanded memory. Proprietary charge cable. Proprietary headphones. Needs a proprietary dongle to charge and listen to music at the same time if you go with standard headphones through the charge port. The iPhone is one of the most anti-consumer devices in modern day marketing and people buy a new one every F'ng year.

@bdrtfm: That's exactly what I meant when I wrote what I did in my initial statement. Thank you for expounding on it further but didn't really think it was necessary.

They're probably worried they might explode in the wake of the Samsung Note 7 debacle. Which would be a much bigger problem, given how you use this product.

Why show it if it isn't ready? I know Apple isn't the only one who does this but they've showed demo's and everything.

@asneakypoptart: I'm not a fan of either. I DO have an iPhone 5 though. Before that I was just holding a pair of Nokia hard-as-brick phones. Didn't need a smart phone back then.
