Remedy Entertainment, creators of Max Payne and Alan Wake, today announced Agents of Storm, an all-new iOS game that the studio claims is groundbreaking.

Agents of Storm is "something that hasn't been done on the platform before," a Remedy Entertainment representative said tonight during the Spike VGX Awards. Players must create a base, build a fleet of ships, and head to battle in a 3D-rendered world, the company said.

The game, which will launch in early 2014, is described as a "reverse tower defense" game that will be "very, very simple." A price for Agents of Storm was not specified.

In addition to Ages of Storm, Remedy is working on Xbox One-exclusive Quantum Break. The studio shared a few more details on this project tonight, saying it will feature two playable characters, as well as time travel and cover mechanics. The game will also be accompanied by a TV show.

I thought this was the worst reveal at VGX. Figured they would have announced something for Alan Wake.

Really hope they bring this to PC if it is worth playing. In their demo you can even see him having issues with the controls because touch controls only go so far. Would be a shame to limit a game like this simply so you can have it out there for what is the trend.

Clearly targeting a "growing" casual market of pad users. Is VGX really the place to announce and demonstrate this type of game? I like to think that VGX is at least an award show for mainstream games.

<< LINK REMOVED >> There is so much unintended irony in that comment. You do realise that there are now more people playing on tablets and mobile devices than on consoles, right? So by that definition this market is the one that's now mainstream, while console and PC are more the hardcore breed. There's also always a bit of crossover, so I think that announcing their new project at the VGX is a fine place as any. Most "casual" gamers who exclusively play on tablets or mobile don't really follow gaming news anyway, not the way we do.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Consoles aren't hardcore. Spending $2000 on a prime gaming PC is hardcore because it requires effort and dedication. More so than just picking up a console from the shop and then plug it in. Consoles and mobile games are in the same boat.

<< LINK REMOVED >> How much money you spend is irrelevant to the type of experience you get. The games offered on PC and console are essentially quite comparable, whereas those on tablet and mobile are a different category altogether. PC and console offer highly immersive and dedicated experiences on large screens, while the other type of gaming is more occasional and also generally more accessible.

There are differences on PC and console, obviously, with plenty of exclusives on both sides, but you'll find they nonetheless have a lot more in common with each other than games in the other group.

Also consider that people who buy a $2000 machine or a console do it (almost always) exclusively to play. Few people get a phone or tablet exclusively to play. It becomes one of the many advantages of their device but it often also has other primary uses.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> My terminology needed work, but essentially VGX seemed to be an wards show for the current and newer consoles. Not sure tablet gamers would be holding out for an announcement.

Time Travel ruins games it messes the story up so badly its becomes a big pile of string tied in a knot. Reversing time to protect yourself for short periods is amazingly fun but if they decide to make a Time Travel game a long running series it will be hard to make sure there are no plot holes

<< LINK REMOVED >>This is Remedy. They don't tend to try to do long running series. I mean look at Max Payne. They voluntarily chose to end it after two because they didn't want to drag it out. Not to mention they also have one of the best lead writers in the industry.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I dunno first a IOS game and them saying Tower Attack is a new type of game. it could be a good game but Time Travel always hurts the story because you can say if something you like doesn't happen why can't i jump back and fix it. Time Travel is a never ending LOOP

<< LINK REMOVED >> You may want to rewatch The Butterfly Effect again to refresh your opinion on that one. At first it does look alright (especially for a film starring Kutcher) but there are many plot holes and inconsistencies in this far from perfect film. For instance the bit in prison where he stabs his hands, etc.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >>First off they aren't saying tower attack is a new type of game. They said they are doing something that hasn't been done on the platform before which likely means that while it is tower attack there is some twist on it.

And time travel doesn't always hurt a story. "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells is widely considered a fantastic story and is based around time travel. Prince or persia the sands of time involved time travel and was done well as were its sequels. The Butterfly Effect was another well done story that involved time travel.

Time travel doesn't screw up a story, bad writing does. It is fully possible to write a good and reasonable time travel story. It's hard if you don't pay attention to detail but it is fully possible.

<< LINK REMOVED >>why? Just because you aren't into a platform should mean nobody should be allowed to develop for it? I don't play handhelds, maybe nobody should be allowed to develop those, Screw anyone who happens to enjoy them.

The quest for the mythical casual mass market continues.

Meanwhile, over in geekland, I officially award Remedy -10 geek points for becoming the latest company to jump on the mobile/touchpad train.

This pretty much says it all: "The game, which will launch in early 2014, is described as a "reverse tower defense" game that will be "very, very simple." A price for Agents of Storm was not specified."

I'm not sure you can scream, "We are trying to use the Alan Wake developer name to attract gamers while making it so easy that people as brain damaged as my senile aunt Mildred can pick it up and be successful" any louder without having access to a heavy metal concert sound setup.

<< LINK REMOVED >> there is a good reason why companies jump to mobile games. Almost every person has one = almost every person can be your customer. Why not crate a game with an almost unlimited population base.
Currently we are seeing something similar (and not quite the scale) to the NA game crash in 1983 (
<< LINK REMOVED >>) in AAA titles.

Dev companies are searching for a way to reduce the cost and increase the profit, and having a cheap platform (such as iOS and android) that do not need millions to create a good game helps alot.

Also, i personally have at least 3 games on my mobile device, while on my PC, i play just 1 game atm (FFXIV my <3 ).

The AAA games, both on PC and console need alot of money, so the fresh ideas come slower then on cheaper games (indies or mobile). Thus seeing a dev that would like to experiment with the format and ideas is always a + in my book. Better that then having another AC,CoD,BF,DS clone with "updated textures" and continuation of "nobody cares anymore" story.

<< LINK REMOVED >> well to be fair, most brain damaged people are not in the earning bracket for apples tech, try doctors, professionals etc.

I assume mods on game sites don't make it into that bracket either
