A Game With 2014 in the Title Is Coming Out in 2016

Rock on.

Ubisoft announced today that its music game Rocksmith 2014 is getting a remastered edition that will launch this year. So that means a game with 2014 in the title is launching in 2016.

The game will sell for $60 across Xbox One, PS4, and PC, though people who already own it can get it free through a patch on all platforms. It launches on all systems on October 4.

Now Playing: Rocksmith 2014 Edition Remastered - Release Date Trailer

"We are very proud the success Rocksmith has had in teaching nearly four million people how to play the guitar and bass," Ubisoft San Francisco producer Nao Higo said in a statement. "The Ubisoft San Francisco development team continues to add new songs to the extensive Rocksmith catalog, now more than 800 deep and support the game with new updates for Rocksmith's loyal fans.

"With Rocksmith 2014 Edition – Remastered, we've improved the Rocksmith method, providing more powerful tools for players to tailor their own learning experience, making it easier than ever to learn how to play."

The remastered version comes with 50-plus songs on the disc and, as Higo mentioned, there are more than 800 available to buy from the Rocksmith store. Additional DLC songs are made available weekly.

Also included with the new version of Rocksmith are the six songs listed below. If you already own the game, however, you'll need to buy these songs if you want them.

  • Bob Marley & The Wailers -- "Three Little Birds"
  • Elvis Presley -- "Suspicious Minds"
  • FUN. -- "Some Nights"
  • Jackson 5 -- "I Want You Back"
  • Outkast -- "Hey Ya!"
  • Train -- "Drops of Jupiter"

GameSpot's Rocksmith 2014 review scored it an 8/10.

If the new 60$ version had a great majority of the DLC included, sure! But it literally is the few year old ps3/360/pc version, again. For 60$.

@hazuki: "... though people who already own it can get it free through a patch on all platform". I don't see the issue.

Wish there was a cheaper way to upgrade from the 360 to X1 for cheap! The digital version of this (obviously without the cable then) should be like $20; I would totally buy that then.

I love Rocksmith. I've got close to 2000 hours played across two different platforms, but I hate Ubisoft and the business decisions they make.

Didn't even care what the article about, just came to say what a stupid title for this. I figured it was something only Makuch could come up with and...yep...totally called it. It's not even good clickbait. "A game with 2014 in the title is coming out in 2016" is something you expect to command my interest?!

@swillermann: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1478827-Rocksmith-2014-Remastered-Official-FAQ-Forums

"As an existing Rocksmith 2014 player, how do I get the Remastered improvements?

If you’re already enjoying Rocksmith 2014, all the improvements found in Remastered will be delivered in the form of a free patch. That applies to all six platforms – PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, and Macintosh – none of our existing players will be left behind!"

@swillermann: I think that the update is only for X1, PS4 and PC. You should contact Rocksmith on Twitter or Facebook, they usually reply to people.

Thought for sure this game would have horrible delay, or would be wildly inaccurate, but it's extremely well done. The "authentic" tones Ubisoft cooked up are pretty accurate, and it's fun messing around with the tone designer. Get it on PC and you can drag-and-drop custom songs into the game. It's a great learning tool.

Of course it's Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed's future plot revolved around the year 2012, until the year came and went but the games never resolved the plot point.

I should get Rocksmith sometime. Might be a fun way to do some more jamming on guitar.

@AyatollaofRnR: It's a really cool and fun way to just doodle on your guitar/bass without having to sit down and properly learn the song (both positives and negatives with that :P). Also a good way to get back into playing if you've lacked motivation!

Pretty smart, would have been silly just calling it Rocksmith 2016 or Rocksmith HD. Then when you make Rocksmith 2018 you can call that remaster same instead of being stuck with titles again.
