2K makes Irrational name change

I don't care what they change their name to as long as they keep making games like Bioshock.

I don't care what they call it, just so long as they let the developers do their thing, and bring this game out to great reviews.

2K Boston sounds...generic.

How come everything is a "Doom" clone, and not, as would be more appropriate, a "Wolfenstein 3D" clone? And as for Bioshock, it is very dissimilar to Doom...

biggest problem i have with the name change is that i link 2k games with crap...something bioshock will not be. despite the alligation of a 1950's doom. i'm pretty sure when i played system shock, and system shock 2, i wasn't even remotely reminded of doom. if you want to relate it to something, relate it to half life. i think the titles are much more alike than a comparison with doom...i am not sure i said that enough. i just want to let everyone know that this game is not anything like doom. volcanoman001 you're probably right. the user probably doesn't even know what gaming without 3d accelerators is like.

Don't even bother with Big_T-Mac. He obviously was not of gaming age when System Shock 1 or 2 came out, because if he was he would know that the last thing this game is is another FPS Doom-esque clone.

Old name was way better. 2k Boston just sounds like something where you'd be like "who the hell is that?" and forget about them in seconds.

Yeah, no kidding. When I hear "Irrational Games" I immediately think of System Shock 1 & 2, Freedom Force 1 & 2. But then again, when I think of "2K" I think of other great games like all of the Visual Concepts sports titles, Oblivion, The Darkness, Prey etc (although admittantly they only published the latter three). So maybe it is a good thing. Only time will tell. Speaking of 2K (and slightly off topic), I do find it ironic that EA bought the rights to System Shock name and story and has never since developed a game with it because they lack the creative team that originally made the game in the first place. Now IG is making the successor with EA's arch enemy and they are basically saying "go stick it, we don't need the license".

@Big_T-Mac: Have you ever played System Shock and/or System Shock 2? Play those before making a judgment on what we've seen BioShock. And get your facts straight too: this is not based on the Doom 3 engine; it's the Unreal 3 engine. Plus, if you're going to "complain" about a Doom clone, then you shouldn't bother with playing any other FPS after Doom either simply because Doom revolutionized the FPS genre. As such, this is far from simply Doom with a 1950s setting.

NO! Irrational games was classic! before the mention of Irrational games was greeted with "ah the cool guys that made System Shock 2 and Bioshock!, now it will be "2K Boston?...who?"

"Irrational Games is widely recognized as one of the most innovative development studios in the world". And yet you feel compelled to change the name, thus removing any positive buzz from having the Irrational name in your stable?

to better identify what studio is pushing the bill, I say go right ahead. Same thing kind of happend with stuff like Splinter Cell, so power to the cause... instead of competing against "other" gaming houses, it becomes a internal battle to make the better... which turns out best for the gamer I like to think :P

Why couldn't they just call it 2k Irrational if they really wanted their sign on it? It doesn't make much sense to rid a great studio of their signature name.

I'm curious as to how irrational feels about this. You provide a publisher (who desperately need a good game) a great game and how are you rewarded? You get your name changed so forever you will be known as just a 2K studio. There's no way that 2K would try to pull this off with Rockstar.

the game is not dumbed down for consoles Gruug. Not all pc owners have A great setup. To play at the same resolution and same graphics you would need to spend a lot of money and i doubt that current dx10cards are going to max it out at high resolutions.

You can build a PC that will run Bioshock as well as the console versions for like $900. Still more expensive than a 360 but not the $1500 someone was spouting about. If you want SLI and a huge monitor then you may have to shell out that kind of money but if you take the time to search for deals on all of the components you can get a really solid PC that will. If you doubt me, send me a message on the site and I will send you a list of all the parts and where to get them cheapest.

You don't need a $1500 PC to play it, you can play it on a $279 XBOX 360 too. Which costs less than most Direct X 10 graphics cards.

Okay, so they make the change so brand loyal people think well of 2K overall. However the change might give the wrong message, like Irrational has gone the way of Clover Studios.

As long as the game they make are superb 2kBOSTON will be very famous ! I only hope that this great publisher gets it running as it should be ! I hope nither UBIOSFT falls because of EA .... ro other developers/publishers like codemasters,eidos , midway , THQ etc .! DOWN WITH EA !!!
