2016 a "Fun Year" for Xbox One New IP, Exec Teases

Discussing the Xbox One's lineup of games for 2016 recently on Twitter, executive Phil Spencer teased that next year will be a "fun" year for new intellectual properties.

"Lots of marketing lines for the different years but for new IP, 2016 is going to be a fun year for us," he said.

Some of the brand-new franchises coming either first or exclusively to Xbox One for next year include Quantum Break, ReCore, Inside, Below, Cuphead, Scalebound, Sea of Thieves, and Ashen.

In the case of Sea of Thieves, Microsoft has said it could be developer Rare's best game ever.

Also on Twitter, Spencer confirmed--unsurprisingly--that Microsoft has new games lineup for 2016 that it hasn't even talked about yet. "Yes," Spencer said when asked if Microsoft had any Xbox games scheduled for next year that people don't know about yet.

Earlier this month, Microsoft marketing executive Yusuf Mehdi said Xbox One had the "best lineup" of games for 2016 following a strong 2015 that included Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Gears of War Ultimate Edition, among others.

Mehdi's comments follow those from Xbox marketing executive Aaron Greenberg, who said in October that 2016's lineup could be bigger than this year's.

"I really feel like the team is firing on all cylinders and we're not going to stop after this holiday," he said at the time. "Frankly, next year's lineup is as big if not bigger."
