Not as good as it could have been but still very entertaining for any jrpg fan.

Ok so the Wii is in a serious drought of jrpgs with a wooping 3 years since tales of symphonia was released, which is in fact a massive amount of time. Even the gamecube had more rpg games but at last we have a good one to pick up but still long ways from being truly amazing.

Lets start with the story, which begins with you fighting some dragons and getting thrown out of a flying ship and into a forest, where you meet Ryfia and offer her to take her to the nearest town. There you will find a friend of yours and it will be the beginning of your adventure. At first the story starts very slowly but it gets better later on, still not the best ever made though enough to make you interested.

Not everything is perfect as the localization is far from good so expect some weird lines of dialogue. Theres also a little problem with the personality of each character, as it is a little too common. So if you have played a couple of rpgs, there will be a feeling of been there, done that.

The battle system comes as quite good. You have a set amount os AP that are used for the many amounts of actions you perform. Fight, items, magic and special skills all use this points so you have to think where to spend them which adds plenty of strategy to the mix. You can also move to separate your characters in order to avoid damage on all of them or even choose to spend them all on a single character if you want but it all depends on the situation. The only problem is the boss fights, sometimes I have killed every monster going to the boss but still remained underpowered before them so it is necesary to grind.

ARF looks alright but it wont wow you. There are some nice cutscenes here and there but the characters and places lack detail. Also it has to be said that the VO is atrociously bad. Even after playing lots of rpgs I have never heard such bad VO but thankfully it can be turned of. The music on the other hand is very good but it gets repetitive sometimes.

Your adventure will last 30+ hours of jrpg goodness that is a good value for your money at a reasonable price. Though theres not much room for a second playthrough.

All in all if you are looking for a nice rpg experience for the wii you will definitively find it here. No, it is not as great as it could have been but its a good first effort from Ignition. Lets hope that the next one is even better and more polished.
