Great RTS for gamers of all levels.
User Rating: 8.7 | Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings PC
This was the first RTS game I played on the PC, and I was instantly hooked. The game play is addictive and has enough levels and difficulties to provide an enjoyable gaming experience for any level of gamer. You have the option to play against many different computer generated characters, as many at a time as you like, and at several different levels of difficulty. There is also the choice of what economical level you want to start at that allows you to start with nothing and build from scratch, or start in an advanced society that doesn’t require as much initial input. The economic portion of the game is simple enough that it doesn’t require a complicated manual to understand it, but it is in depth enough that it doesn’t seem useless, tedious, and boring. The fighting is the same way. It’s easy enough to learn how to attack and defend, but there’s also an opportunity to develop your own specific, unique fighting style.
The graphics in the game aren’t outstanding, but they are serviceable. The environments vary enough that you can find a terrain that suits your fighting style or find one that challenges you. The navy portions of the game are a little weak, but they can be avoided when playing a single player game.
Overall this is a great RTS game for players of any level who enjoy a variety of game play options.
